⚠️MAJOR TRAFFIC PROJECT TO BEGIN AT FM 518 & I-45⚠️

On the evening of September 9, TxDOT will be starting work on a project that will provide much needed traffic relief at the intersection of FM 518 and I-45. This is part of TxDOT’s larger I-45 improvement project and should be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting. However, during construction there will be a temporary increase in traffic congestion, and we recommend allowing extra time and planning an alternate route during heavy traffic periods.

Work will start on the north side of FM 518 between Hobbs Rd./Lafayette Ln. and Wesley St. During construction, traffic lanes on this section of FM 518 will transition to one lane in each direction, with additional lanes open at the I-45 intersection. Businesses will retain existing access while work is in progress.

Improvements being made include:

✅ Double left and right turn lanes added on east and westbound FM 518 at I-45
✅ North and southbound frontage roads will increase from 4 to 6 lanes, including double left and right turn lanes, along with dedicated U-turn lanes
✅ Increase from 7 to 10 total lanes under the I-45 overpass, including 2 dedicated left turn lanes in each direction and 3 through lanes in each direction

Kids are back in school and we thought we would remind everyone to watch for school zones and to pay attention to busses. We hope all teachers and kids have an awesome 2022-2023 school year!

🛑 Take a look at the image and review the laws for passing school buses with loading and unloading. The middle picture is similar to most of Main St or Hwy 3. The picture on the right resembles Marina Bay Dr. If there is a grass or raised median, you do not have to stop. If there is a turn lane, you have to stop. Always watch for kids! 🚸
