We need a balanced approach to tech in Leander ISD. I’m very glad that some of my sons’ teachers are reducing their reliance on laptops in class.

I strongly support Laura Marques, Leander ISD Board of Trustees - Place 6 and if you read this post, you will too. Good stuff is happening; let’s keep going!

One of the things I am most proud of since joining the Leander ISD Board of Trustees is the shift our board has made toward keeping student outcomes at the center of everything we do, and I am excited to share what that looks like in practice.

When I joined this board, I brought a clear focus on data-informed decision making, access for every student, and making sure that ALL kids — whether they need help catching up or need to be challenged and extended — have a system that supports them. That commitment is now driving real, systemic change across our district, and I am proud to be part of it.

We recently approved ambitious board goals centered on raising performance for ALL students, with a clear emphasis on closing gaps for students who need additional support. Our goals are specific and measurable, targeting improvements in the percentage of students reaching the "Meets" level on STAAR in:

3rd and 6th grade reading and math
English I and Algebra I
TSI math and reading

We will also monitor academic growth throughout the year, to make sure needed needed interventions happen early.

We backed those goals up with robust Superintendent Guardrails, clear expectations that ensure every decision our district makes is aligned with these goals.

Here's what that means in practice:

✅ PLCs at the center — Teachers collaborating consistently to drive student growth, support intervention, and challenge high achievers

✅ Access for every student — Making sure every child has a clear pathway to enrichment and opportunity, regardless of their background

✅ High quality curriculum — Rigorous, navigable instructional materials with built-in support for every type of learner

✅ Real family engagement — Moving beyond traditional approaches to give families meaningful, actionable information to support their child's learning at home

✅ Operations aligned to academics — Every major budget and operational decision must demonstrate a direct connection to student outcomes

This is what student-centered governance looks like, and this is exactly why I am running to stay on this board. The work is not finished. We have built a strong foundation, and I want to see it through, making sure every child in Leander ISD has the support they need, the access they deserve, and a system that is accountable for their success.

I am proud of what this board is building, and I am asking for your support this November so I can continue to be part of it.
