One of our friends and neighbours is helping with a food box drive for students at Leander ISD that need food to take home for the holiday break. This is through a reputable group that does this each year, and provides these boxes home to our families in need. I am posting her request here and if you feel inclined to help out please do!

We have families that really need your help!
Most kids look forward to having two weeks out of school and the delights of the winter holiday break but for kids going home to empty pantries, the idea can be scary. I have been collecting boxes for this campaign for the past 6 years and every year I have seen the number of families in need, to increase. This year, Leander High School alone, has 120 families in need. I committed to collect 25 full donation (Box 1 + Box 2).
We can help fill part of this need by providing food to LISD families over the holiday break. It cost about $100-120 to feed a family during this holiday break. A full donation (Box 1 + Box 2) will feed a family of 4-5 people for 2 weeks.

The lists for Box 1 and Box 2 are attached to this signup. Anything will help and you have the option to make a full donation (Box 1 + Box 2), half donation - Box 1, half donation - Box 2 or a contribution in money.
Take your family to the grocery store and let them go through the list. Feel free to decorate the boxes for an added holiday touch! To help with the distribution, please assemble all items as indicated bellow:
Full donation - Box 1 + Box 2: you can split the food so the boxes are not too heavy. We pack each box with the same items, mark the outside with the box number, Box 1 or Box 2.
Half donation - Box 1: pack all items in a single cardbox and mark the outside with box number 1.
Half donation - Box 2: pack all items in a single cardbox and mark the outside with box number 2

Good afternoon, Fellow Dems! And Happy Early 4th!
Our nation’s Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all [persons] are created equal.” Although our nation still falls short of achieving this ideal, we can be proud of the progress we’ve made and be thankful for those who have been causing “good trouble” and fighting the good fight!
In that spirit, I invite you to join the Leander Democrats Together at Leander’s Liberty Fest tonight, at Devine Lake Park. Doors open at 6:00. There will be music, food, and fireworks! If you have your Leander Democrats Together shirt, please wear it to the event to demonstrate our commitment to upholding the aspirations expressed in 1776 in our own community today. If you don’t have a shirt, stop by the Williamson County Democratic Party booth where we’ll have members of the Leander Democrats Together, and you can order one!

Leander is a patchwork of districts: two counties, three house districts, three state senate districts, two congressional districts, two State Board of Education districts, two commissioner courts, just to name a few. Will they really SERVE the City of Leander if they think we are fractured? Join forces with your Democrat Precinct Chair to unite with other city democrats to send a message: We are united!

Today’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade is another dark day in America.
As Leander Democrats, what can we do?
VOTE. Nothing matters more, but in these dark days, it isn’t enough.
Give your time. Befriend like minded democrats in your neighborhood & work in teams. Write letters, make phone calls, and knock on doors.
This is how change happens.
Only have an hour to spare? Donate it. Ask your precinct chair or a candidate for ideas.

While the 2022 Texas Republican platform is a problem, politics starts at home. Contact your Democrat Precinct Chair to see how you can help our community stay rooted in truth, justice, and humanity - since the GOP has none.

Some 5,100 delegates and alternates voted on a party platform that also calls for ending the federal income tax, requiring education about fetal gestation and limiting the Legislature’s right to regulate guns.
