Media Release: Leander Police Investigate Vehicle Collision With CapMetro Train

LEANDER, Texas — August 29, 2026 — Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, August 29, Leander Police responded to a reported collision involving a CapMetro commuter train and a Jeep at the intersection of Hero Way and U.S. Highway 183.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep failed to obey a traffic control signal and entered the train’s path, resulting in a collision.

The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old white male, was transported to a local hospital by Williamson County EMS as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Media Release: Leander Police Investigate Shooting at Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility

LEANDER, Texas — August 29, 2026 — At approximately 3:40 a.m. Saturday, August 29, Leander Police responded to a report of shots fired at The Haven at San Gabriel, an assisted living and memory care facility located at 1253 West San Gabriel Parkway in Leander.

The preliminary investigation indicates an unknown suspect drove up to the facility and fired several shots toward the front of the building. No one was injured, but the building sustained property damage.

Based on the information available at this time, investigators believe this was an isolated incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.

Community Policing: In 2018, Sgt. Solis was wrapping up a call for service when he came across a group of Leander kids playing football. He tossed the ball around with them for a bit before heading out.

This week, while pumping gas, he got a surprise: one of those kids, Grayson, recognized him from that moment over 8 years ago and pulled up the photo from that day. Grayson is now studying to become a first responder.

It’s moments like these that remind us how powerful community policing can be and how meaningful those small connections truly are.

Our first two came ready to make their pitch, but neither walked away with a deal.

National Night Out is getting a fresh twist in Leander this year!

On Tuesday, October 6, we’re celebrating at two locations: Bledsoe Park and Benbrook Ranch Park. Leander PD is teaming up with Leander Parks & Recreation to bring the community an evening of connection and fun.

Come out, meet your neighbors, hang out with your first responders, and enjoy a great night in your city. We can’t wait to see everyone there!

🏡 Neighborhoods & HOAs: You’re welcome to host your own National Night Out celebration! We always encourage neighbors to connect and enjoy time together.

*Please note that because the City is hosting two large events this year, police, fire, and other City teams may not be able to attend individual neighborhood parties.

We hope to see you at Bledsoe Park or Benbrook Ranch Park as we celebrate National Night Out together!

We need your help identifying the man caught on surveillance helping himself to merchandise at two Leander vape/smoke shops: 512 V**e and Paradox Smoke Shop.

He left very quickly… probably because the items he grabbed weren’t exactly paid for.
