🚩 RED FLAG WARNING FOR SATURDAY 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday.

Tomorrow's weather will create conditions where any fire that starts could spread rapidly. While temperatures will be a little cooler than today, strong west winds of 15–25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, combined with very low humidity and dry vegetation, will make for critical fire weather conditions.

Our neighboring districts to the east are under a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag Warning, which is a very rare warning that is only issued during the most extreme fire weather events. While Chelan County is not included in the PDS area, we're all being impacted by the same powerful weather system, and conditions here will still be dangerous.

With the dry fuels across Chelan County, it only takes one spark to start a wildfire. We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe.

Thank you for doing your part to help protect Chelan County.

Brush 33, with FF/EMT Calhoon and FF/EMT Tolton, responded yesterday to the Kaiser Canyon Fire. The fire is burning in Okanogan and Ferry counties, and is currently at 53,000 acres.

Brush 33 and crew have been hard at work on night shift, prepping houses and defending them as the fire passed through.

We responded through the state mobilization of resources. The program was created in 1992 after the ‘91 Spokane Fire Storm, and allows local fire districts to request resources state-wide. This allows for additional help when all mutual aid resources are engaged or the fire becomes an extended attack.

The fire danger in Leavenworth is currently: VERY HIGH

CCFD #3 has recognized the need for fuel reduction in the district for years. The inability to burn woody debris during the summer months is compounded by the apple maggot quarantine restrictions.

Our chipping program in the spring and fall has made an impact in processing the dead and down fuel loading in the community.

Furthermore, our Fuels Crew has been hard at work this summer, completing 16 defensible space treatments so far with over 20 acres treated. This work is being achieved with funds from the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. We’re extremely proud of the hard work our crew is doing to make our communities’ homes safer in the event of wildfire; creating defensible space around individual homes and egress paths.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." - Benjamin Franklin (speaking on the subject of fire prevention)

If you have any interest in participating in our chipping program or have defensible space needs, please reach out via [email protected]

Attention - The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Leavenworth area until 11AM tomorrow.

With incoming thunderstorms and low relative humidity throughout the region (let's not get into the fuel moistures - also very dry) we ask everyone to exercise extreme caution over the next 24 hours or so. You can't stop lightning strikes, but we can strive to not have any human caused starts during this time.

Thank you all for being safe so far this fire season.

Current Fire Danger: VERY HIGH

CCFD #3 will be training in the 200 block of Prospect St. tonight from 6:30PM until 9PM. This will be utilizing a structure donated by the owner for training purposes before demolition.

There is no emergency. Any smoke is artificial for training purposes. Thanks!

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the current Fire Restrictions in place for Fire District 3 and the surrounding area.

ALL outdoor burning is closed - This includes recreational campfires.

The Current Fire Danger is:
HIGH (Chelan FDRA) and VERY HIGH (Valley)

U.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest restrictions can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatchee

Washington State Department of Natural Resources restrictions can be found here:
https://dnr.wa.gov/wildfire-resources/outdoor-burning/burn-restrictions

Fireworks continue to be illegal in Chelan County. We will have apparatus patrolling and the Sheriff's Office will be contacted for anyone observed lighting fireworks.

This is not a normal July 4th. This year, similar to last year, we are experiencing dry fuel moistures for this time of year. We have already responded to large scale wildfires in the region.

You are responsible for any negligent act or fire that you start, including cost of suppression.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at Station 31 @ (509) 548-7711

Fireworks are prohibited throughout all of Chelan County.

As we head into the Fourth of July holiday, we'd like to remind everyone that a countywide fireworks ban is in effect.

Our forests, and surrounding hillsides are extremely dry, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire. This ban helps all of us protect our homes, communities, and the beautiful place we all live

We appreciate everyone's help in keeping our community safe this coming holiday weekend. Thank you for doing your part!

Fire season is upon us! You can help Fire District 3 prepare for fires threatening our community by:

• Volunteering to provide support services for firefighters including food preparation and support for their families so they can maintain focus on the emergency at hand.

• If you are a paid firefighter with another jurisdiction living in District 3, join us as a Reserve Firefighter. Different than our regular volunteer firefighters, we’re looking for help from current professional firefighters to help us out during major emergencies and disasters.

• Donate to help pay for the cost of personal protective equipment for our Reserve Firefighters.
