🚧 Upcoming Sewer Main Repair on Commercial Street 🚧 We've identified a large rock in the sewer main located near the intersection of Commercial and 14th, directly in front of the gate to our Water Resource Recovery Facility (Wastewater Treatment Plant).

The City is partnering with JM Pacific Construction to clear the obstruction and complete necessary repairs while keeping the facility fully operational.

The construction work is expected to take no more than 48 hours. During this period, nearby residents should expect noise, heavy equipment, and other construction activity during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Schedule (subject to change):
🗓️ Tuesday, September 8: Site investigation beginning in the morning and continuing overnight.
🗓️ Wednesday, September 9: Repair work beginning in the early morning and continuing overnight.
🗓️ Thursday, September 10: Work continuing until the repair is complete.

🔥WE NEED YOUR HELP🔥The City of Leavenworth is holding a naming contest for the newest additions to our public works fleet – two 2025 International HV™ A26 Snowplows and a 2025 Ford F-600 Service Truck (it has a crane!).

We are asking YOU for name suggestions! Here’s how to submit:
1) By dropping a comment below 👇
2) Emailing [email protected] with ‘Naming Contest’ in the subject line ✉️
3) Drop-in or mail-in to City Hall (Attn: Naming Contest, 700 US Hwy 2 / POB 287, Leavenworth, WA 98826) 🏛️

A few ground rules:
• Each person may submit up to 3 names.
• Each submission is limited to a maximum of 30 characters.
• Any names with profanity, inappropriate language, or politically inspired names (including phrases, slogans, or plays on politicians’ names) will be excluded/deleted.

The greater Leavenworth area is home to an estimated average of 250 black bears. When human food attractants—especially unsecured trash—are left accessible, bears enter neighborhoods and lose their natural foraging behaviors. Tragically, a habituated bear puts both the community and itself at risk. Protecting our local wildlife is a shared effort, and small daily habits make a big impact.

🌲 The 6 BearWise® Basics to Practice Today:
1. Secure Food & Trash: Store non-bear-resistant cans in a secure garage or shed until the morning of collection—not the night before.
2. Upgrade Your Bin: Add a bear-resistant cart to your curbside service.
3. Remove Bird Feeders: Bring feeders inside during active bear months (April–November).
4. Feed Pets Indoors: Never leave bowls, kibble, or food scraps outside.
5. Clean & Store Grills: Scrape off grease after every cookout and store grills securely.
6. Never Feed Bears: Intentionally or negligently attracting bears is illegal under state law (RCW 77.15.790) and subject to fines up to $1,025.
