Traffic Tuesday ๐Ÿš“ Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs ๐Ÿš— K.S.A. 8-1567

Memorial Day weekend is coming up. A lot of people are going to be celebrating, having BBQs in their backyards, going out to restaurants and bars. Enjoy your time celebrating, but don't forget making sure you have a safe way to get home if you are going to be drinking during the long weekend.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states motor vehicle accidents with an alcohol impaired driver kill 32 people in the U.S. every day. According to Kansas Health Matters, Kansas has a statistic of 21.5% fatalities with vehicle accidents with impaired drivers.

It is never safe to drive when you are feeling intoxicated. If you plan on drinking while out on the long weekend make sure you're not intoxicated if you are the one driving home, have a designated driver if you plan on drinking, or have an uber or taxi come get you if you don't have a sober driver.

For more information on DUIs from the National Highway Traffic Administration:

Traffic Tuesday ๐Ÿš“ Move Over Law: Construction Edition ๐Ÿฆบ

Summer is around the corner, and we all know what that means. Construction is going to be happening on all major roadways. It is important to remember when you see those construction workers on the side of the road doing their jobs, to move over to the other lane within 100 feet of approaching them.

This section of the move over law (K.S.A. 8-1520a) is for the safety of those construction workers to help limit traffic accidents caused by not moving over. According to the Kansas Health Institute, the state of Kansas averaged 4.1 fatalities and 2,833 injuries per an equivalent of 100,000 full time construction workers.

Stay safe on your commutes and travels! Donโ€™t forget to move over for the safety of those working on the side of the road.
