Weekend OWI Arrest – Leavenworth, Indiana

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 1, 2026

Leavenworth, Indiana — On Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Officer Jeff Lahue observed a motorcycle disregard a stop sign at an intersection in the Old Town area of Leavenworth.

Officer Lahue conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the motorcycle operator.

During the course of the encounter, Officer Lahue developed reasonable suspicion that the operator may have been operating the motorcycle while impaired.

Following a subsequent investigation and the administration of standardized field sobriety tests, Officer Lahue transported the operator to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for a certified chemical test.

The results of the chemical test indicated that the operator was over the legal limit.

The motorcycle operator was subsequently arrested and incarcerated in the Crawford County Jail.

It was later determined that the motorcycle operator was currently out on pretrial release in connection with a pending OWI case stemming from June 2026.

This arrest highlights the importance of responsible driving and the dangers impaired drivers pose to other motorists and members of our community.

Officers will continue to enforce impaired-driving laws and take appropriate action to help keep the Leavenworth community safe.

We would like to thank Officer Jeff Lahue for his continued dedication and commitment to the safety of the Leavenworth community.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Leavenworth Police Department Announces Officer Completion of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Course

Leavenworth, IN — The Leavenworth Police Department is proud to announce that Officer Samantha Lahue has successfully completed the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course in Jennings County, Indiana.

The TECC program, administered through the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), equips law enforcement professionals with evidence-based skills to provide lifesaving medical care in high-stress, high-threat environments.

This training enhances Officer Lahue’s ability to rapidly assess injuries, control bleeding, manage airways, and coordinate care during critical incidents until advanced medical support arrives.

Officer Lahue’s commitment to advanced training directly strengthens the department’s readiness and the community’s safety.

TECC skills ensure officers can deliver immediate, effective care when seconds matter most.

The Leavenworth Police Department remains dedicated to continuous professional development and the adoption of best practices in emergency response.

Immediate Release

Leavenworth Police Department July 4th Activity Summary

Leavenworth Police Department handled the following incidents and community engagements:

1. Agency Assist / Public Relations

• Officers assisted the Marengo Police Department with the Marengo Fourth of July Festival 5K Run and Parade to support a safe, family-friendly event.

2. Injury Accident
Officers responded to a personal-injury motorcycle crash at SR 62 and Turkey Fork Road.

3. Attempted Traffic Stop → Vehicle Pursuit → Arrest

• While on patrol, Officer Jeff Lahue observed a motorcycle traveling approximately 53 mph in a posted 15 mph zone on Old Town Hill.

• Officer Lahue activated emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop; the motorcycle accelerated and attempted to flee.

• Officer Lahue notified assisting agencies. Indiana State Police and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office who responded to assist.

• The motorcycle came to a stop on SR 62 west of town. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

• Preliminary charges: Resisting Law Enforcement (Vehicle) – Felony; Reckless Driving – Misdemeanor; Operating While Intoxicated (OWI); and OWI Endangering.

• No injuries to officers or bystanders and no property damage were reported related to this incident.

We are grateful this vehicle pursuit concluded without further incident and that an impaired driver was removed from operating unsafely on our roadways.

Fireworks Information

Legal Discharge Dates and Times:

State law dictates specific periods when fireworks are protected by statute, meaning local ordinances cannot prohibit them:

June 29 – July 3rd & July 5th – 9th - 5:00 p.m. until 2 hours after sunset.

July 4th only: 10:00 a.m. to midnight.

Please be respectful of others who may well have PTSD regarding loud noises. Veterans, victims of gun violence, etc may have strong reactions to fireworks in close proximity to their locations. Fireworks are best limited to open areas in public places, and not in neighborhoods with other residents in close range.

Animals often have fear and flight reactions to fireworks and are many times lost to their owners during fireworks displays. Please be aware of animals in the area and make sure your own pets are secured during fireworks hours.

Alcohol and fireworks do not mix well. Hundreds of injuries occur every year due to the misuse of fireworks, and alcohol is often a contributing factor. Please be responsible if you are planning on having your own fireworks display.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD WARNING ⚠️

Please be safe out there and avoid driving through high water on roadways.

Over the past several hours, multiple water rescues have already been performed throughout Crawford County. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the roadway.

Turn Around, Don't Drown. If you come across a flooded roadway, do not attempt to drive through it. Find an alternate route and wait for the water to recede.

Let's keep our first responders focused on emergencies, not preventable water rescues.

It’s been a busy day for the Leavenworth Police Department. Officers Jeff and Samantha Lahue have been out since this morning assisting throughout the county as the sheriff’s office was overwhelmed with multiple calls for service.

The calls we have assisted on have consisted of vehicles in the water, trees down, welfare checks, and business alarms.

As always, we are here to serve the community and happy to help our county sheriff’s office partners.

Officer Jeff Lahue is currently setting up a command post at the Leavenworth firehouse in Carefree where resources will be deployed to handle tree down calls throughout the county.
