The Life Skills Lab at the JLCEC wrapped up the year with learning that was practical, memorable, and a lot of fun! One of the students’ favorites was the Ramen Noodle Cookoff, where students explored the history of one of their favorite meals while learning valuable life skills along the way.
Students discovered that ramen originated in China and was introduced to Japan by Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century before becoming a global phenomenon after Momofuku Ando invented instant ramen in 1958. More importantly, students learned how to prepare flavorful, budget-friendly meals with minimal ingredients and without relying on major kitchen appliances.
Beyond the cookoff, the Life Skills Lab helped students build confidence and independence through real-world experiences that will serve them well far beyond the classroom. From problem-solving and teamwork to budgeting and meal preparation, students gained practical skills for everyday life while having fun and trying new things.
Learning life skills can be meaningful, engaging, and delicious!
