On September 2, 2026, members of the Warren County Family & Children First Council and community partner agencies joined professionals from across Ohio at the Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) Kids Summit in Columbus.
This year's theme, "Do What's Right for Kids: Driving Solutions Through Collaboration, Efficiency, and Action," challenged attendees to work together to improve outcomes for children and families.

A highlight of the summit was keynote speaker Maurice Clarett, former Ohio State running back, who shared his lived experience navigating the juvenile and adult justice systems. His powerful story emphasized how positive relationships, mentorship, and support can change the trajectory of a young person's life.

The summit also featured lived-experience panels on infant mortality, children's services, kinship care, foster care and adoption, and early care and education, providing valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing Ohio's children and families.

Counties were encouraged to align local council initiatives with key state priorities and identify actionable strategies that create meaningful impact.

Warren County FCFC is grateful for the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and bring new ideas back to our community as we continue working with our partners to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Welcome Back, TLC!

Our TLC program is kicking off the 2026–2027 school year with 35 student interns ready for a great year ahead!

The first days have been all about getting to know one another, reconnecting, and getting ready to learn new skills and take on new experiences. We can’t wait to see all that our TLC interns accomplish this year!

The first week is here, and the Laura Farrell Campus opened its doors this morning to a lot of happy, excited faces.

Some were new. Some were returning. Every one of them walked in ready to start the 2026-2027 school year, and our team was right there to meet them.

This is the week all the summer planning was for. A place built carefully, by people who care, for students who thrive when someone believes in them.

This week at the Wellness Center on our Phoenix Campus, our team welcomed students back through the doors for the first day of a new school year, and it was exactly the kind of start our staff spent the summer preparing for.

Some students arrived ready to jump in, while others needed a familiar face and a few quiet minutes to settle, and both got met right where they were, because that is the whole point of the work here. We build from wherever a student walks in on day one, and everything that follows this year grows out of these first minutes.

The buses pulled up this morning and the Learning Center came back to life.

After a long summer, our students walked back through the doors, and our staff were ready and waiting for them. You could feel it in the hallways. New backpacks, familiar faces, a few first-day nerves, and a team that has spent weeks getting classrooms ready for this exact moment.

A new school year means a fresh start for every student we serve, and our team gets to be part of that growth all over again. That's the work. That's the reason people stay.

This week the doors at MDESC opened on a new year, and our team was standing right there to meet it.

The rooms were ready because staff spent the last few weeks setting them up, learning names before the first bell so that every student who walked in was greeted by someone who already knew them. That kind of preparation doesn't happen by accident. It happens when people are invested in the students they serve and want them to feel welcome from the very first minute.

To everyone at MDESC who poured care into getting ready, thank you. It showed this week, and it will keep showing all year.

The first days back at SCC came with a lot of smiling faces, and a new outdoor sensory space to explore.

Watching our students move through it for the first time, testing it out, playing, settling in, was the kind of morning that reminds you why this work matters. The space was built for the specific ways our students take in the world, and seeing them use it exactly as we'd hoped was worth every bit of the planning.

Our doors open this Thursday for Back to School Open House, and our teams cannot wait to show off the spaces where our students will learn and grow this year.

All summer, our staff have been getting ready. Classrooms cleaned and set, several spaces newly renovated, and every detail in place for the first days back.

It happens across all of our WCESC student programs and campuses:

⭐ Wellness Center, Phoenix & Deerfield Campuses
⭐ Social Communication Program, Western Row Campus
⭐ Multiple Disabilities (MD) Program, Western Row Campus

Being action-oriented means seeing what needs to be done and stepping in to do it, before anyone has to ask.

That's one of the many reasons Lisa Moore was selected as a Champion for Children by both our Occupational Therapy and School Psychology departments.

For Lisa, it means "anticipating something that needs to be done and doing it instead of handing it off to someone else or handling it later."

"I've always loved solving problems. I try to constantly look ahead and observe those around me so I can help wherever I'm needed."

That mindset shows up in how she supports students and colleagues. She especially enjoys working with people who are new, guiding them through procedures and handing them tools they can actually use. She provides organizational support to school psychologists so they can focus on direct work with students, and she orients new therapists through monthly collaborative meetings.

What gives her energy? Connection and humor.

"I feel energized at work by connection and through humor, whether that is engaging with a struggling student, building relationships with colleagues, and seeing the funny in some situations. I try to recognize obstacles before they arise and anticipate what someone might appreciate or need at the moment."

Her willingness to look ahead, recognize what others need, and act on it makes a real difference for students and staff across our district.
