Local History Club Meeting This Thursday

I just sent out the monthly reminder email that this Thursday, August 27th is the last Thursday of the month - which means it’s time to get together and talk local history!

Last month we took a field trip to the Wilson County Archives for an awesome guided tour. But this month we’re getting together at the beautiful Fite-Fessenden House on Main Street. I’d like to offer Alexa Moscardelli and the entire Wilson County History Associates group for hosting our club!

This is an informal, free, and welcoming club that gets together at 6:00pm the last Thursday of each month to talk local history, share resources, and gather local stories to share with the entire Wilson County community. All ages and backgrounds are welcome - this is an opportunity to get back out in the real world and make local friends that share a love of local history.

Support the Veterans Art Program: Boots & BBQ Fundraiser

In support of its veterans' art programs, Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center is hosting a "Boots and Barbeque" fundraiser on August 1 & 2. It promises to be a fantastic event for a great cause. You can find details and tickets on the Monthaven Arts Event Page. We hope you’ll join your fellow Fite-Fessenden volunteers in Hendersonville this weekend!

Fun Historic Connection: Did you know? James L. Fite built what is now the Fite-Fessenden House in 1870, while his older brother Leonard built Monthaven in 1860. Volunteers and staff only recently discovered this 150-year-old family connection during a Tennessee Association of Museums conference—making this partnership truly meant to be!

He will speak on the history of the Wilson County Fair dating back to 1853! Lunch will be Mexican Casserole with salsa & chips. The Year Round Garden Club has collaborated with the Fite-Fessenden House for many years giving both Financial support and volunteer work year round weeding, planting and establishing the Parterre Garden around the historic DAR fountain. The YRGC flower show at Mitchell House will be fantastic! Mark your Calendars for June 4, 2026. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.at
