Two years ago this evening, there was a knock on our door, and the world changed forever.
Sometimes, I wish anyone would wave a magic wand to remove the relentless pain that I sit in, but then I remember that I am so very lucky to have this grief, because it means that I loved hard, and that I was very loved. I am learning to live with Bill now in a different way. Bill is still here with me every day; I can feel him, I talk to him. He is here in the community helping to guide the new officers.
I am so thankful that Underkoffler, Adams and McCarrick survived that night, and are here to continue in the honorable profession of protecting and serving our community. I am thankful every day that they are here for their beautiful, growing families. I know each of them work hard to preserve Bill's legacy, and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
The William D. Lebo Memorial Foundation, the loving brain-child of Eric Sims, continues to contribute to the community in so many meaningful ways. So many people tell me stories of their encounters with Bill over his 40 year career, happy encounters, helpful encounters. The Post Office will soon bear his name.
I am so proud of who Bill was, his strong sense of values, his devotion to his job and to me. Bill never did anything half-way, and he was certainly the only man to ever walk the planet who is able to keep me calm through anything.
I hope you all continue to help me in making sure his legacy in Lebanon will last for generations to come.
