Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States by experiencing the annual reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, at Monmouth Battlefield State Park.

Family-friendly activities throughout the weekend will include military encampments, cannon and musket firing demonstrations, children’s musket drills, colonial-era music, a program about Molly Pitcher and a memorial service hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution. The weekend’s featured event, the Battle of Monmouth reenactment, will take place on both days, recreating one of the largest and longest battles of the American Revolutionary War.

The two-day living history event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

A donation of $15 per vehicle is suggested.

The annual reenactment is made possible through a partnership with the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, a New Jersey State Parks Officially Recognized Friends Organization.

Who's making a splash in Hunterdon County?

As paddling season gets underway, keep an eye out for some of the wildlife that calls our local waterways home. Herons, turtles, and even the occasional Bald Eagle can be spotted along the South Branch of the Raritan.

What's the coolest animal you've ever seen while kayaking or canoeing?

Join the Parks for a van trip to the reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth on Saturday, June 20! Travel back in time to the 1770s and see two armies preparing to do battle. Continental Army soldiers retrained at Valley Forge will be itching to show off their new skills, while a British-German-Loyalist Army hopes to crush the rebels and restore good government. We will arrive in time explore the camp of about 200 reenactors and watch soldiers clean their muskets while their women prepare what may be their men’s last meal. Some officers may be drilling their men while others plan for the battle and yet others play cards. If someone is accused of cheating, there may be a duel. We will stay for the battle reenactment and have time to explore the visitor center. We will have time to visit the sutlers (vendors that followed the army selling goods to supplement army-issued supplies) and catch the program “Over Here Molly Pitcher.” This program is appropriate for adults and children ages 8 and up. We will meet at Deer Path Park at 10:30 AM and return at 6:00 PM. To learn more and register, visit: https://tinyurl.com/52yzkt73
