The final figures are in! In August, area Rotary Clubs in District 6510 participated in the Ponies for Polio event, held at the Moose Lodge in Belleville Illinois. Our pony's name was Doctor Whooves, and attendees from a club brought Doctor Who memorabilia, decor, and our own. Renea Miller sported a lovely, vintage Tom Baker scarf.
Our jockey this year was Carl Thomas Berry, who has the distinct reputation of being the jockey with the most wardrobe changes at these events. Only his wife Jodi Berry knows how he will next appear in each round of the races. The rest of us live in suspense until he makes his entrance.
We delayed our post regarding this event until we have the final figures for the money raised. The Rotarians raised $22,000 in a single night at this event. It was matched by Mr Bill Gates of the Gates Foundation two-to-one for a grand total of $66,000 raised to help eradicate polio.
Job well done, everyone!
