Continuing with EMS Week "Improving Outcomes, Together" - today we will highlight a couple tools your volunteers have at their disposal to help save lives.

LVFD EMS providers have both automated external defibrillators (AED) and LUCAS 3 automated chest compression devices at the ready for use in cardiac related events. The AED can test the patient's heartbeat, and provide a shock if needed to stabilize their heartbeat. The LUCAS device is used for CPR and extends the reach of care by maintaining chest compressions during transport from the scene to the hospital.

Both LVFD ambulances are equipped with an AED as well as a LUCAS device as a part of their regular outfitting. In addition, all LVFD apparatus and vehicles are outfitted with an AED. To further enhance emergency response, 16 of our LVFD members carry an AED along with their emergency medical kits in their personal vehicles. To round out community protection, there are an additional 27 AEDs distributed around town at locations such as the Jonathan Trumbull Library, Town Hall, the schools, churches, etc.

If you'd like to help our Lebanon community, ask us how you can join our team! You can visit our website and fill out the online application form - https://www.lebanonfd.org/join-us - no experience is necessary, WE TRAIN YOU!

Earlier this evening your LVFD volunteers continued a time-honored department Memorial Day tradition that has been occurring for decades. Members visited the graves of past members buried in town and placed fire department "Loyal to our Duty" flags at their markers. This year it was a little rushed due to the possibility of severe weather, but we were able to visit each member's final resting place to honor them for Memorial Day. Here is a look at this year's LVFD Flag Detail.

"Improving Outcomes, Together" - to continue on this year's EMS Week theme, we'd like to put the spotlight on some of the other EMS certifications our members have been adding to their resumes, beyond EMT and EMR. These certifications are certainly adding to the "Improving Outcomes" part.

In addition to EMT and EMR certifications, our members have added these to their toolkits:
Connecticut Certifications:
* Emergency Medical Service Instructor
* Health and Safety Officer
* BLS CPR Instructor
National Certification:
* Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Provider

If you'd like to help and improve outcomes together, join our team! Ask us how you can apply for membership - no experience is necessary. Remember that WE WILL TRAIN YOU!

Part of "Improving Outcomes, Together" is making sure our members can respond to the community's calls for service as quickly as possible. As call volumes here in Lebanon continue to increase year after year, the frequency of concurrent calls for EMS service also grows.

Now that we have two ambulances in service to work together serving the community's needs, here are some statistics about responses with our newest member of the EMS fleet, Ambulance 606. These figures are from Fiscal Year 2025/26, which started September 1, 2025 and is still ongoing.

Ambulance 606
Total Calls: 262
Concurrent calls: 64
Mutual Aid responses out of town: 10

Also, thus far this month alone, May 2026, there were 6 concurrent EMS calls where both Ambulance 606 and 506 responded with a full staff!

If you'd like to help out - drop us a line to find out our application process. No experience or training is needed - we will train you!

This year's theme for EMS Week is "Improving Outcomes, Together". For our first post of the week, we'd like to highlight some of our members that hold active State of Connecticut EMT or EMR certifications.

We currently have a total of 36 active members that hold Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certifications. Adding all of their years of service as EMS professionals to the town together, your volunteers currently have a total of over 545 years of experience!

If you'd like to help out, we're always looking for new members - just ask us how you can apply for membership! No experience or training is needed - WE WILL TRAIN YOU!
