Important Information Regarding MCHS Graduation:

Our sincere hope and ultimate goal is to have our graduation ceremony on the football field at 11:00 am, as planned.

However, if that is not possible due to weather, our first option will be to delay the start of graduation. We’ll share any information about changes through our messaging system using text, email, and phone calls. We’ll also share any updates to the MCHS and MCPS pages.

If it appears that graduation can’t begin by 1:00 pm on the football field, we’ll move the ceremony indoors to the high school gymnasium. Please be aware, if the graduation is moved inside, tickets will be REQUIRED to enter the building. Everyone, including children of any age, must have a ticket to enter the doors. Please ensure you have the 10 graduation tickets that were given to your Senior last week.

We know having graduation ceremonies outside has been extremely popular among our families the past several years, so let’s keep our fingers crossed we are able to do so again tomorrow.

Marion County High School senior Samantha Abell was recently awarded the Eastern Kentucky University Experience Excellence scholarship. The scholarship became available to MCPS students planning to attend EKU next year after MCPS Superintendent Chris Brady was named the EKU Experience Excellence Superintendent of the Year.

Inspired by a quote from Mother Teresa, the district created an application that asked students to reflect on their experiences as an MCPS student and discuss times they’ve seen evidence of people working together to accomplish great things.

In her response, Abell described her experience in the Beta club during her 8th grade year where she worked with a group of peers on a project that helped her develop her public speaking skills. Not only did the project win at the state competition, but the skill she developed later played an important role in finding success in a dual-credit class during high school.

Abell also discussed the assistance she received from the MCHS guidance counselors in putting her in a good position to succeed as a college student and beyond:

“Further, I am most thankful for our high school guidance counselors. Because with their help, I was able to take college classes on my own time to get a jump start on college. I am also so grateful for the opportunity to co-op this last semester of high school to help chase my dreams of becoming a pilot one day. Being able to go into work earlier in the day for my co-op has allowed me to take on the additional task of working toward my Private Pilot License. But I know that without the counselors’ guidance, I wouldn’t have the college credit hours that I do. I’ll have close to 40 credits after my classes this semester conclude. I don’t say that to boast. I say that to show the opportunities that the counselors and Marion County High School have given me.”
