The Lebanon Fire District has released its 2025 Annual Report, providing an overview of district operations, emergency response activity, financial conditions, community risk reduction efforts, and key accomplishments from the past year.

Serving more than 35,000 residents across 134 square miles of fire protection and 416 square miles of ambulance service, the district responded to 7,181 emergency incidents in 2025, reflecting continued growth in demand for fire and emergency medical services.

“The 2025 Annual Report tells the story of a district working hard to meet the growing needs of our community,” said Fire Chief John Tacy. “Behind every statistic is a firefighter, paramedic, volunteer, or staff member dedicated to serving others. This report reflects their commitment and provides a transparent look at the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of emergency services in Lebanon.”

On the evening of June 15, Lebanon Fire District firefighters responded to a fast-moving grass fire in the 35900 block of KGAL Road. Due to dry conditions and steady winds, the fire quickly grew to approximately two acres and threatened nearby farming equipment and additional fields.

Thanks to the rapid response of firefighters and assistance from local farmers, crews were able to stop the fire from spreading further and bring it under control in about 20 minutes.

While firefighters were working this incident, emergency calls continued throughout the district, including a cardiac arrest, a fire alarm activation, and a motorhome fire at the south end of town. Resources were reassigned as needed to continue providing emergency response across the district.

This incident serves as an important reminder that burn season has ended and all open debris burning is prohibited. As temperatures rise into the 90s this week, conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for wildfire. Dry grass, low fuel moisture, and windy conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly. We ask all residents to use caution outdoors and remain vigilant as we enter what is expected to be a hot and active start to the summer fire season.

It also highlights a reality our crews face every day: emergencies rarely happen one at a time. Fires, medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, and other calls often occur simultaneously, requiring firefighters, paramedics, ambulances, and apparatus to respond to multiple incidents across 419 square miles.

In May alone, Lebanon Fire District responded to 322 medical emergencies, 77 hospital transfers, 19 vehicle accidents, and 15 mutual aid requests. During that same month, crews experienced 49 callback requests due to no available ambulances—situations where all available units were already committed to other emergencies. Incidents like the KGAL Road fire demonstrate how quickly resources can be stretched when multiple emergencies occur at the same time.

Lebanon Fire District responded to 322 medical emergencies during the month of May while continuing to provide ambulance service across 419 square miles and to a growing population throughout the region.

May response statistics include:

• 322 total medical emergencies
• 77 hospital transfers
• 57 lift assists
• 19 vehicle accidents
• 15 mutual aid responses
• 5 cardiac arrests
• 49 callback requests due to no available ambulances

Our crews maintained an average emergency response time of 5 minutes and 10 seconds while providing emergency medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

One statistic that stands out is the 49 callback requests due to no available ambulances. These occur when all district ambulances are already committed to other emergencies, requiring additional personnel to be called in or assistance from neighboring agencies.

Medical emergencies continue to account for the majority of the district's call volume, and demand for ambulance services has steadily increased over time. As our community grows, so does the number of residents, visitors, and neighboring communities relying on Lebanon Fire District for emergency medical response and transport.

Emergency calls do not occur one at a time. Multiple incidents often happen simultaneously, requiring crews to manage overlapping medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, fires, and other calls for service. As call volume continues to rise, so does the demand placed on personnel, ambulances, and equipment.

The statistics reported each month provide a snapshot of the increasing demand placed on emergency medical services and the growing number of residents who rely on ambulance response, treatment, and transport throughout the district.

A reminder to our community that burn season has officially ended. Backyard debris burning is no longer allowed.

With temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s and dry, windy conditions across the area, even a small fire can quickly become a serious threat.

Last night, firefighters responded to a backyard burn pile that escaped and grew much larger than intended. Fortunately, crews were able to stop the fire before it spread into a nearby grass field.

Even if you haven't burned recently, old burn piles can remain hot beneath the surface for days or even weeks. As conditions become hotter and drier, these piles can reignite and start new fires.

Please take a few moments to:
• Check old burn piles to ensure they are completely extinguished
• Look for heat, smoke, or smoldering material
• Thoroughly soak and stir any remaining ash or debris
• Report any escaped fires immediately by calling 9-1-1

The program provides complimentary one-day use life jackets in sizes ranging from infant to adult large to help keep community members safe on the water. Before using a jacket, please complete the waiver form at the kiosk or scan the QR code provided. Life jackets should be returned the same day after use.

Last season, a large number of jackets were not returned, putting the future of the program at risk. Many jackets were taken back to campsites and accidentally left behind, while others were never returned. When jackets go missing, fewer are available for families and visitors who need them.

If you borrow a life jacket, please return it to any kiosk or drop it off at any Lebanon Fire District station. Returning loaner jackets helps keep this free community safety program available throughout the summer.

Yesterday morning at 11:21 a.m., Lebanon Fire District responded to a serious single-vehicle crash in the 32000 block of Berlin Road.

Upon arrival, crews found a heavily damaged vehicle off the roadway with one occupant trapped inside. An off-duty Lebanon Fire District volunteer firefighter arrived before responding units and immediately began providing emergency care.

Firefighters from Engine 31 quickly initiated extrication operations while paramedics provided advanced medical treatment. Despite significant vehicle damage, crews were able to safely extricate the trapped patient in less than 10 minutes.

All three occupants were transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

This incident required all available staffed Lebanon Fire District units and prompted a first alarm request for off-duty and volunteer personnel to help maintain emergency coverage throughout the district. During the response, Lebanon Fire volunteers and Albany Fire Department worked together to make sure additional emergency calls in our community continued to receive timely service.

Thank you to Lebanon Police Department, Lebanon Oregon and the Linn County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with traffic control and scene management.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Lebanon Fire District was proud to attend the 2nd Annual Lebanon (Willamette Valley) Pow Wow and spend time connecting with members of our community.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of an event that celebrates culture, tradition, and community while bringing people together from across the region.

We would like to give a special thank you to the kindergarten class from Riverview Elementary School Lebanon, Oregon for visiting our station!

We loved having the opportunity to show you around, talk about fire safety, and share a little about what firefighters do every day. The hand-drawn pictures you brought for our crew were incredibly thoughtful and brought smiles to all of us.

It means a lot that you took the time to create something special for our firefighters. Thank you for making our day and for being such a fun group to host!
