🚨 CHILD CAR SEAT RECALL ALERT🚨

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall involving certain Britax infant car seats.

NHTSA Recall ID: 26C006

Affected seats include certain models of:
• B-Safe Gen 2
• B-Safe Gen 2 FlexFit
• B-Safe Gen 2 FlexFit Plus
• B-Safe 35
• B-Safe Ultra
• Endeavours

A screw in the car seat’s carrying handle may come loose, which could cause the handle to partially detach. If this happens while the seat is being carried, a child could fall and be injured.
Britax is currently developing a remedy for the issue. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by October 19, 2026.

✅ What parents and caregivers should do:
Check your car seat’s exact model information using NHTSA’s Recall Look-up Tool to determine whether your seat is included in this or another recall.

🔎 Check your car seat for recalls (select “Car Seats” and enter the brand and model information for your seat):
https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

If your car seat is affected, contact Britax for additional information and instructions regarding the remedy.

📞 Britax Customer Service: 888-427-4829

Keeping up with car seat recalls is an important part of keeping children safe on every trip. Please share this information with parents, grandparents, caregivers, and anyone who may use a Britax infant car seat.

📚✨ Welcome back to school, Buchanan County!✨📚

The 2026–2027 school year is officially here! Whether your kiddo has been counting down the days or dragging their feet just a little, today is a fresh start full of possibilities. All of us here at the Cumberland Plateau Health District are so excited for every student, teacher, and family walking through those doors today! 🩵

A couple of things to keep on your radar as the year gets rolling:

🍳 Don't skip breakfast! According to the CDC, kids who eat a healthy breakfast have better memory, better moods, and miss fewer days of school. Even something quick, like toast with peanut butter or a banana and some yogurt, goes a long way!

🩺 It's never too late to get a well-child visit on the calendar. These annual checkups are one of the easiest ways to make sure your child is healthy and ready for whatever the school year throws their way.

We're proud to serve the families of Buchanan County, and we're cheering you all on from day one. Here's to a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious school year! 🩵

📚✨ Happy first day of school, Tazewell County!✨📚

There's nothing quite like the energy of a brand new school year. New teachers, new friends, maybe a new backpack or pencil case! Whether your little one is starting kindergarten or your teenager is counting down to graduation, all of us here at the Cumberland Plateau Health District are rooting for every single one of them, and for all the teachers and families, too! 🩵

A couple of things to keep in mind as your family settles in:

💤 If bedtime has been a little flexible this summer, you're not alone! Getting back on a consistent school night schedule really does help kids show up ready to learn and feeling their best. (Check out more info at: https://www.cdc.gov/physical-activity-education/staying-healthy/sleep.html )

🚗 If your child still rides in a car seat or booster, now is a great time to make sure it's properly installed. We have a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician right here in the district who can check it for free, so just give us a call! (276-988-5585)

We're so proud to serve the families of Tazewell County. Here's to the absolute best school year ahead! 💚

🦝 That cute raccoon in the yard? Leave it alone. That stray dog at the gas station? Don't pet it. 🐶

We know it's tempting, especially when an animal looks harmless or even friendly. But, rabies is an ongoing threat across the United States, and Southwest Virginia is no exception.

❗Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal. But it IS preventable if you act fast after a bite or scratch.

Here's what you need to know:

✅ Never touch, feed, or approach wild animals, even if they seem friendly (that can actually be a sign of rabies)

✅ Don't pet stray or unfamiliar dogs and cats

✅ Keep your pets' rabies vaccinations current. It's Virginia law for all dogs and cats 4 months and older!

✅ Teach kids: if you don't know the animal, don't touch the animal

✅ If you're bitten or scratched by ANY animal, wash the wound with soap and water and contact your doctor or local health department immediately

Rabies doesn't give second chances. But a few smart choices can keep you and your family safe. 💙
