May is National Foster Care Month, and we want to take a moment to recognize just how important foster parents are. Every day, they open their homes and hearts to children during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. đź’™

One simple way to help is by donating through our Amazon wish lists! We currently have two lists that directly support the children and families we serve:

🧸 Our Foster Care Closet
This closet provides children entering foster care with immediate necessities like pajamas, socks, underwear, bottles, and other items to help them through their very first night in placement. Your donations help ease the transition and allow foster families to focus on welcoming and comforting the child instead of rushing out for essentials.

🏡 Our Agency Townhouse
Our townhouse is where family visitations take place. We aim to create a warm, relaxing, home-like environment where parents and children can spend meaningful time together. Donations from this list help provide games, activities, and other items that encourage family interaction and connection.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Thank you for supporting children in foster care, the families who care for them, and the important work being done in our community. đź’™

Foster caregivers play a vital role in helping children and families heal—and in many cases, that journey leads to reunification.

As highlighted by the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, foster caregivers provide stability, support family connections, and partner with caseworkers and parents to help children safely return home. Their role goes beyond caregiving—they help build trust, encourage progress, and create a foundation for stronger families.

Reunification isn’t just a moment, it’s a journey of healing, growth, and second chances.

This month, we recognize and thank foster caregivers for the compassion, patience, and dedication they show every day.

On average, there are about 100 children in foster care in Warren County. Due to the number of foster parents licensed through the county, 20% of the kids in care are still being placed far away from everything they know—their schools, friends, and support systems.

These aren’t just numbers. These are children who need stability, connection, and a place to belong.

To our incredible licensed foster families: thank you. Your compassion, patience, and commitment make a life-changing difference every single day. You are providing not just a home, but hope, stability, and a sense of belonging when it’s needed most, and our community is deeply grateful for you.

Becoming a foster parent can feel like a big step, but it can change the entire course of a child’s life. Keeping kids close to their community helps them stay grounded during an incredibly difficult time.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the time to learn more. Our community needs you. https://www.warrencountyohio.gov/ChildrenServices/FosterCareAdoption/Application/Index

As Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that supporting families isn’t just a one-month effort—it’s something we carry forward every day. When families have the resources, encouragement, and community they need, children can truly thrive.

Let’s keep showing up, lifting each other up, and building stronger, safer communities for all children. 💙

Preventing child abuse and neglect starts with awareness, compassion, and action. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment—and we all have a role to play in making that a reality.

By checking in on families, offering support during stressful times, and connecting others to helpful resources, we can reduce the risk of abuse and neglect before it happens. It’s about building strong relationships, recognizing when someone may need help, and responding with care instead of judgment. If you see something concerning, don’t stay silent—reach out, offer help, or report it when necessary. Speaking up could change a child’s life.

Together, we can create a community where children are protected, families are supported, and no one feels alone. đź’™

Sesame Workshop has created a powerful collection of FREE resources to help caregivers, educators, and families support kids navigating foster care. From videos and storybooks to simple activities, these tools are designed to help children feel safe, seen, and understood.

Through characters like Karli, a Muppet in foster care, kids can better process big feelings, transitions, and questions about belonging. These resources remind us just how important it is to create stability, connection, and hope for every child.

Strong families build strong communities. One of the most powerful ways we can protect children is by supporting the families around us—friends, neighbors, coworkers—so they have the tools, encouragement, and connection they need to thrive.

Sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest difference: offering a helping hand, listening without judgment, sharing resources, or simply showing kindness and understanding. When families feel supported, children feel safe, valued, and loved. Let’s work together to create a community where every family has the opportunity to grow, succeed, and flourish.
