Boone County Government is proud to announce that Boone County Veteran Service Officer Mike Spidel has earned official accreditation through the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA), completing a rigorous statewide program designed to strengthen services for Indiana veterans and their families.

The accreditation recognizes Spidelโ€™s successful completion of professional standards and training established by IDVA to ensure County Veteran Service Officers are equipped to help veterans navigate benefits, healthcare access, and other critical services.
Indiana is the first state in the nation to implement comprehensive statewide accreditation standards for County Veteran Service Officers, reinforcing a commitment to consistent, high-quality support for veterans at the local level.

โ€œMikeโ€™s accreditation reflects his dedication to serving Boone County veterans with professionalism, compassion, and expertise,โ€ said Nick Parr, Boone County Director of Administration. โ€œVeterans and their families often face complex systems when seeking benefits and assistance, and this certification helps ensure they have knowledgeable local support they can trust,โ€ Parr said.

Spidel was recognized during a ceremony attended by Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs leadership and fellow accredited service officers from across Central Indiana. He received both an accreditation certificate and a commemorative challenge coin recognizing fully accredited officers.

Boone County officials said the accreditation further strengthens the countyโ€™s ongoing commitment to serving local veterans and connecting them with the benefits and resources they have earned through military service.

The Boone County Veteran Service Office assists veterans and their families with federal, state, and local benefits, including disability claims, healthcare enrollment, education assistance, and survivor benefits.

Boone County officials and Witham Health Services today affirmed their shared commitment to a thoughtful and transparent process as Witham pursues affiliation with Parkview Health.

Witham Health Services first shared its plans with the Boone County Commissioners and County Council in an executive session on April 6. On April 7, Witham announced a non-binding Letter of Intent to explore an affiliation with Parkview Health. No final decisions have been made, and the Affiliation Agreement will require a vote from the Boone County Commissioners, Boone County Council, and the Witham Board of Trustees.

โ€œWe support a strong future for Witham and are committed to a process that benefits our community,โ€ said Boone County Commission President Tim Beyer. โ€œWe are taking the time to get this right,โ€ Beyer said.

County Council President Jennifer Hostetter joined Beyer in recognizing the importance of transparency and public engagement. โ€œWe are all committed to a process where the public is informed before any vote is taken,โ€ Hostetter said.

Witham Health Services leadership and County officials will continue working together to ensure robust healthcare for Boone County.

โ€œOur priority is ensuring that our county continues to have high-quality, locally accessible healthcare while positioning it for long-term success,โ€ Beyer added.

There is currently no timeline set for completion of the agreement. Once the Affiliation Agreement is ready, it will be made available to the public along with the opportunity for community engagement and comment.

Residents can follow updates and submit questions through Witham Health Services (https://witham.org) and monitor local media for information about public meetings and opportunities to participate in the review process.
