🚨WCS CLOSED FRIDAY, 9/4/26 DUE TO EXTREME HEAT 🚌

Due to the forecast for very concerning high temperatures/heat indexes combined, and the potential impact of the extreme heat on our students and staff, Wilson County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 4th.

All 12-month employees report, and the ATC will be open.

Kids Club will operate on their inclement weather plan sites.

This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our students and staff as our top priority. With many of our students and transportation staff spending extended periods of time on school buses, the extreme temperatures create additional safety and health concerns, particularly during afternoon transportation.

Keep in mind, this intense late summer heat wave has persisted throughout this entire school week, so as we reach the week’s end, heat relief for our bus students and transportation staffs who have experienced this oppressive heat the most is needed. 🚌 🥵

We appreciate the understanding and support of our families as we make this decision with safety in mind. ❤️

Students will return to school on Tuesday, September 8th. 🗓️

Schools are closed on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day. 🇺🇸

Enjoy the “long-er” but very hot holiday weekend! Please stay safe and hydrated.💦

A good old fashioned icy Watertown road doesn’t sound too bad about now, does it? IYKYK 😉

We thought August brought the brunt of the heat this year, but September said, “Hold my backpack, watch this.”

With prolonged heat in place for our area this week, we encourage families to make sure your children are staying well hydrated at home. It goes a long way in helping prevent any heat-related illnesses.

Rest assured that while experiencing these higher heat conditions, restrictions are placed on outdoor activities for students from mid-morning through midday, then from 1 PM to closing bell those outdoor activities are postponed or cancelled.

Hopefully fall wakes up soon, but for now, summer has definitely decided to stick around a while longer!

Until the heat breaks, keep dreaming those sweet dreams of “Winter in Watertown.” 🧊❄️🚨💜

🎺 BIG NIGHT PLANNED FOR HS BANDS! 🥁

All of our high school bands will be on full display tomorrow night (Saturday, August 29th) at Green Hill High School for the “Wilson County Marching Band Exhibition!”

It’s a great opportunity to check out all of our bands and their fall field shows! 🤩

Definitely a great event for the fam to come check out!

📝 PSAT CAN OPEN BIG DOORS! 🤩

Meet two of our most recent National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists who took the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) and are benefiting greatly from it as they enter their respective universities!

Niranjan Shibu is a 2026 Wilson Central High School graduate and he is currently at UAB. Christopher Bonner is a 2026 Green Hill High School graduate and he’s just started his freshman year at the University of Idaho.

They are just a few of our Class of 2026 students who took the PSAT and qualified for the prestigious scholarship program. It paid off big time for not only them, but other students too!

Did you know? 🤔

• Approximately 1.3 million high school students take the PSAT
• 50,000 are identified as high scorers
• 34,000 are named Commended students.
• 16,000 become Semifinalists.
• 15,000 become Finalists.
• 8,500 students receive National Merit Scholarships.

If you’re currently a sophomore or junior, then inquire with your school’s guidance office about the October PSAT dates ASAP! You just never know where it could lead, or how much scholarship money could come your way by taking it.

By taking the PSAT as a junior, you are automatically qualified for the National Merit Scholarship competition. In fact, the exam is also referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).

The flyer with WCS high school testing dates and registration deadlines are in the comments section. Deadline dates range from early to mid-September, so please check the flyer for your school’s important dates.

📢 Quick Attendance Reminder: When your child is absent, please remember to submit written documentation within 3 school days of their return. You can submit notes via Skyward or send a physical note/email directly to the school office.

Reminder: Notes must include the reason, date, parent signature and phone number. Absences become permanently unexcused if documentation isn't received within those 3 school days!

Here's the latest edition of "Wilson Live!" It's the official podcast for Wilson County Schools.

Lots of great information is shared in this episode as we welcomed Director of Schools Travis Mayfield to the show, and WCS Athletic Director Chuck Whitlock too!
