The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Lebanon County invite the public to attend Bonsai Basics: The Art and Care of Miniature Trees on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lebanon Valley Agricultural Center, 2120 Cornwall Road, Lebanon, PA 17042.
This hands-on introductory workshop:
- will introduce participants to the art and science of bonsai, a centuries-old practice that combines horticulture and artistic design to create beautiful miniature trees.
- will explore the history and guiding principles of bonsai while gaining practical experience in selecting plant material, applying basic design techniques, and choosing appropriate soils, containers, and tools.
- participants will learn essential bonsai care practices, including pruning, wiring, watering, fertilizing, repotting, sanitation, and proper sunlight management.
- the workshop will highlight popular bonsai styles and provide valuable guidance for maintaining healthy and attractive bonsai trees in Pennsylvania's climate.
Whether you are new to bonsai or an experienced gardener looking to develop a new skill, this workshop offers the knowledge and confidence needed to begin creating and caring for your own bonsai trees.
