While yesterday’s results were not what we had hoped for, the election brought strong engagement from voters across Russell County.
What stands out most is the continued increase in voter participation in Russell County during these special elections. In 2023, turnout was 43%. In 2025, it rose to 46%. This year, we saw that number climb again to 47%. While still below the approximately 70% turnout we saw in the 2024 presidential election, it is encouraging to see more citizens engaging in these off-cycle votes.
After our highly successful rally earlier this month, I had a strong sense of where the vast majority of Russell County citizens stood on the issue of gerrymandering. The turnout, conversations, and community engagement we saw there reflected a clear level of interest and concern. I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to show up, ask questions, and be part of that conversation.
Although we are disappointed in the outcome, I remain encouraged by the level of participation here at home. Russell County continues to show that our citizens are paying attention and are willing to make their voices heard.
This election may be over, but the responsibility to protect fair and transparent elections remains. We must continue to stand for fairness, ensure every voice is represented, and stay engaged in the process moving forward.
