Driver Engineer David Hackett succumbs to complications from COVID-19

(Brooksville, FL) Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services is saddened to report that Driver Engineer David Hackett, 44, lost his battle with the Coronavirus / Covid-19 yesterday evening, September 25, 2021.

He entered the Department in 2002 and was promoted to Driver Engineer in 2013. He was currently serving at Fire Station #14. David dedicated his life to his family and the fire service, following in the footsteps of his father Dennis Hackett a retired District Chief from Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services.

David leaves behind his loving wife of 12 years Julie and two sons, Jacob age 11 and Nicholas age 8. Please keep his wife and children, as well the rest of his family, friends, and members of the fire service, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral service information will be released as soon as arrangements are finalized.

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners will be holding an emergency meeting today, Wednesday September 22nd, 2021, to discuss the status of the county's plan to absorb Nature Coast Emergency Medical Services. The meeting will take place at 5:15 pm at the Inverness Courthouse.

Please note, the only topic that can be discussed by the commissioners and the public at the emergency meeting is the absorption of EMS. All other concerns can be discussed during the regularly scheduled meetings during the open public forum. The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Tuesday, the 28th of September, 2021.

Last night first responders were on scene of a vehicle accident on Grover Cleveland.

4 patients were declared ‘trauma alerts’ and flown to trauma centers.
Citrus County Sheriff's Office, Citrus County Fire Rescue, FHP, AirLife 4 FL and 3, NCEMS, and Med-Trans - Florida, and AirCare all worked together to treat and transport the individuals involved.

Yesterday morning Nature Coast Volunteer Center delivered a box of cards and letters of appreciation and encouragement to our headquarters in Lecanto.

The cards were written by citizens of Citrus County to show appreciation for first responders.
