Ledyard Animal Control

Ledyard Animal Control Hours: M-F 8-4pm
Meet and greets with adoptable pets are by appointment only. There is only one officer on duty at a time.

The Ledyard Police Animal Control Division has become one of the most highly respected in Southeastern Connecticut. The condition of its facility, its involvement in many proactive community events, as well as its highly professional service all have led to this sterling reputation. This division is responsible for the investigation of all incidents involving domestic animals, as well as the care

and well being of animals taken into its facility. The Animal Control Office exists to prevent cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals in the Town of Ledyard by enforcing all state, county and town ordinances to the fullest extent possible. We shelter homeless animals and attempt to place them in safe and loving home environments. We educate the public on all animal issues, to foster a more aware and caring community. So, if they are tending to the animals at the shelter or out on a call they will not be available to answer phone calls or check Facebook messages. Please leave a detailed message with your name and number and your call will be returned as soon as we can. If it is an EMERGENCY, and we cannot be reached or it is after hours please call dispatch at 860-464-6400. Animals that are available for adoption will be listed on our page. Please feel free to call and check in with the office also. We have a wish list posted that gives an idea of the type goods we use here at the shelter. Donations are welcomed and appreciated and can be dropped off during business hours. The wish list can be found at: http://ledyardchain.org/?page_id=1335
In addition, Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. (Citizens Helping Animals In Need) is a local non-profit group that works with the community to offer assistance to the pets here at the shelter. You can contact them on Facebook or their website to learn more.

Wildlife rehabilitation takes a village.
Many of you know that rehabilitators often focus only on certain species. This helps ensure wildlife receive specialized care from people who are properly trained, permitted, and equipped for their unique needs.

That’s why I’m asking for your help supporting fellow rehabilitator Oona of Pachaug Wildlife Rehabilitation.

She is preparing to step into the critical role of assisting orphaned raccoons, something Connecticut desperately needs more support for right now. She’s incredibly close to reaching her fundraising goal for the enclosure needed to safely, properly, and legally house these babies during rehabilitation.

If you are able, please consider donating even a few dollars. Every bit helps move this project closer to reality for the animals who will depend on it.

Donate to the GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/b6a4d1c72

If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing the fundraiser can make a huge difference too. Wildlife rehabilitation works best when rehabilitators support one another because the animals depend on all of us. 🦝

UPDATE: we have closed applications for Queenie as we have had a large amount of interest! Please be patient with us as we call you all back. So much love for this cat, it’s wonderful!

Queenie is looking for her forever home!!!

This adorable, extremely affectionate 3yo cat is officially up for adoption! She was recently spayed, tested neg for FeLV/FIV and has been dewormed. She previously lived in a home with kids, cats and dogs. We have seen that she has a lot of patience for other animals but she wants the attention from people more than from animals. She greets us right away when we come in and will truly be a wonderful lap cat. Please consider adopting Queenie… she is the best! Call us at 860 464 9621

It’s not everyday we get to save an orphaned groundhog! This cutie was casually walking around a neighborhood and made it pretty clear she was in need of some help. Thanks to our friend at Pachaug Wildlife Rehabilitation, she is getting the care she needs. We waited some hours to see where mom may be but she was definitely on her own. We want to give a huge thank you to our local rehabbers for the assistance and education they provide us to help these orphaned wild animals. If you can, check out their page and see all the good they do!
