The Massachusetts Cultural Council is a state agency that promotes excellence, inclusion, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences, fosters a rich cultural life for all Massachusetts residents, a

nd contributes to the vitality of our communities and economy. The mission of the Lee Cultural Council is to promote a rich and diverse cultural life in the Lee community, strongly supporting programs, events, and performances which entertain and encourage critical thinking, creativity, and community building. GRANT CRITERIA/COUNCIL PRIORITIES

The Lee Cultural Council gathers input from the community yearly and develops funding priorities based on this feedback. This year the Lee Cultural Council will give priority to programs that include music, theater, dance, audience interaction, and learning opportunities, throughout Berkshire County, and which:
· benefit residents and visitors to Lee
· benefit underserved populations
· foster exposure to other cultures
· encourage critical and creative thinking

Applicants should indicate a venue and proposed date(s) for the program, as well as a letter of support from the proposed venue, with the understanding that the programs that we fund are scheduled to take place from January through December 31st. If funded, applicants may receive partial funding only, and are therefore strongly encouraged to seek additional financial support for their project.

We just finished voting on Grants...recipients will be notified by January 15. Big Changes coming...After 7 years as our faithful treasurer, Valerie Bluhm is stepping down and turning over the roll to the capable hands of Martha Page! Thank you Valerie for your commitment and service over the past 7 years!

And as the chair for over 7 years, i will be training a co-chair to move into the roll or chair person.

And we are still looking for a few good people, willing to work to give back to some time and energy to our wonderful town.

PM me if interested.

There is a movement to pass the following statement through the Calling all Lee Residents!

There is a movement to pass a resolution through the select boards of all the towns in Berkshire County. So far it has passed in North Adams and is on the agenda for Becket.

Here is what we are asking for:
1. The Town of Lee, through its Select Board, is governed by the Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Select Board, consistent with the oaths taken by its members, follows that law. It aims to ensure that all persons living in, working in, or visiting Lee be treated fairly and equally regardless of national origin, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, immigration status, or political viewpoint.
2. The Select Board hereby directs the Lee Police Department to protect the rights guaranteed to all persons by the federal and state Constitutions, and only the laws enacted thereunder, to anyone within the Town’s jurisdiction, at any and all times.
3. The Select Board further directs that the officers and other employees or volunteers of the Police Department not inquire as to a person’s immigration status unless such status is directly material to a criminal investigation.
4. The Select Board further directs the Police Department to cooperate with federal immigration authorities with the detention of persons only where a criminal warrant has been issued against specific individuals by a court of competent jurisdiction, or where probable cause exists to believe that a criminal offense has been committed.
5. By this statement, the Lee Select Board affirms its commitment to the rule of constitutional law.

At the August 19 Selectboard meeting in Lee, i am asking the selectboard to put this on the agenda for a vote at the next meeting.

The more support I can get at this meeting the better our chances are. Please come if you can (Tuesday, August 19, 7 pm town hall) and spread the word!
thanks so much.
