Did you know 🌻 each year Coppal House Farm selects 2–3 local non-profits that are doing meaningful, impactful work in our community to receive a portion of the proceeds from our Sunflower Festival?
This year, we are honored to support three incredible organizations:
🌱 The Granite State Association of FFA
Over the years, Granite State FFA members have generously volunteered their time at many of our events, and we are so grateful for their continued support. The FFA is a national youth leadership organization for students interested in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. Formerly known as Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization has over 1 million members across all 50 states. Here in New Hampshire, there are 11 FFA chapters in high schools with approximately 500 members. Students gain valuable leadership and agricultural skills while building friendships that last a lifetime.
šŸ’› Cornerstone VNA
Cornerstone VNA plays an essential role in our community, especially through their hospice care services. Their work provides comfort, dignity, and compassion during some of life’s most difficult moments. This organization holds a deeply personal place in our hearts, as their team provided exceptional care and support for owner Carol Hutton’s mother, who passed away this past August. Their impact goes far beyond healthcare—they truly support families when it matters most.
🧠 Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading volunteer health organization dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. They are leading the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia by accelerating global research, promoting early detection and risk reduction, and providing quality care and support for those affected. Their mission is a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
Every visit to the Sunflower Festival helps us give back 🌻

Thank you for being part of something bigger and helping us support these amazing organizations in our community.

Join us at Coppal House Farm for a special pasture walk hosted in partnership with Granite State Graziers! šŸ‘šŸ¾

This walk will focus on one of the most important parts of our livestock operation, our Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs). Learn why these incredible dogs are essential to keeping our sheep safe, how they work alongside our farming practices, and what makes them such valuable members of our farm team.

We’ll share insights into:
• How LGDs dogs protect livestock from predators
• The breeds we use and why
• Training and daily management
• How LGDs fit into our grazing system and overall farm operation
• Recent legislation and regulations surrounding Livestock Guardian Dogs, including discussion about HB1133 and what it could mean for farmers and dog owners

This event is FREE to attend, but we kindly ask that guests register ahead of time using the link below:

Friendly reminders from our farming friends!

Happy Monday! It's that time of year where farm equipment will be on the road almost daily so please be patient and remember the person in the equipment is just part of trying to help feed the world

🚜Do not pass unless it is safe to do so, you not only put yourself in danger but the equipment operator and anyone oncoming... Enjoy the extra few minutes it takes you and thank that farmer!

šŸ€If a tractor slows down not in an intersection, prepare for them to turn LEFT OR RIGHT into a field, this does not always mean they want you to pass them, if you see an open field....assume they are going there

🚜Do not follow too close or right on them at a stop sign and give them time to shift like a loaded 18 wheeler when they get started

🚓Bikers... Please stop getting mad at us, we will NOT pass you unless it is absolutely safe for the tractor and equipment to pass.. we will wait behind you to keep you safe

We hope all our fellow farmers have a safe and wonderful planting and harvesting season and mother nature is good to all of usā¤ļø

Sooo many sunflowers got planted today!

One of the two fields for the Sunflower Festival got planted conventionally after prepping the soil to make it smooth and free of other plant matter.

The other Sunflower Festival field was no-tilled through a field of clover. This type of planting is exactly how it sounds. Nothing is done prior to the field before it is planted. By not tilling the field we prevent further compaction of the soil, save time and fuel on the number of trips through the field, and suppress weeds naturally. The clover creates a mat that prevents weeds from coming through but the sunflowers will outgrow.

We hope to one day plant all of our field with the no-till method. We learn a little more every year to make that plan a reality!

We also planted our last round of ornamental sunflowers to cut and sell during the sunflower festival. Despite all of the cold weather, we are happy to say the first planting of ornamental sunflowers have popped out of the soil and will be ready to cut for the farm stand in late July! It is so nice to finally see things growing!

Springtime on the farm means muddy boots, green grass, and a whole lot of manure. 🌱🚜

Over the last few days Farmer John & Jim have been hard at work cleaning out our manure storage and spreading it across the fields to help get the soil ready for planting season ahead. Around here, that means the beloved ā€œp**p pileā€ the farm dogs have been enjoying all winter suddenly disappeared… much to their disappointment. šŸ¶šŸ’©

But don’t worry — spring also means cleaning out the winter sheep packs and restocking the manure supply! Today while our pregnant summer flock happily grazed on fresh green grass, their barn got a good spring cleaning and the dogs officially have a brand new p**p pile to enjoy.

Life on the farm isn’t always glamorous, but it’s all part of the cycle that helps grow healthy crops, feed happy animals, and keep the farm moving into another season. šŸŒ¼šŸ‘

Scarlet and Leroy made their annual spring trip to Take Five Dogcare for some much-needed grooming!

As Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs, these two spend their days out with the sheep doing what they do best — protecting the flock, rolling in who-knows-what, and collecting every bit of mud, hay, and barn dust possible. Add in blowing their winter coats and they were looking rough. šŸ˜‚

When we picked them up, the team told us it took THREE shampoos to get them clean! Now they look like completely different dogs… honestly, we’re not sure the sheep are going to recognize them.

We absolutely love Take Five and are so thankful for the amazing care they give our farm dogs every year. Scarlet and Leroy are fluffy, fresh, and ready to get right back to work (and probably dirty again by tomorrow).
