If you have been following along with your local government over the last several months, you know that a gate was approved for the entrance to Finnin Park. The gate, pictured below with reflective tape and signage, will help reduce unnecessary and unwanted vehicle traffic toward the back of the park during closed hours, where some attempted to take advantage of the terrain and limited visibility for various nefarious reasons (dumping, substance use, etc.).

Opening and closing of the gate will be handled by the Allegheny Township Police and/or the Public Works Department. While the hours of the park are dawn to dusk, the gate will be opened and closed daily as soon as practicable. Generally, we will strive to have it open no later than 9am and closed/locked no later than 9pm. You may still enter the park on foot during the day even if the gate is locked.

Please be respectful of the park equipment/property and the neighbors around it. We continue to work hard to maintain and improve the quality of municipal facilities and amenities!

*** EDUCATION & ENFORCEMENT ALERT - TRAFFIC SAFETY ***

Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in drivers not stopping when required for school busses that are loading and unloading children on the roadways...

So, in conjunction with our focused enforcement efforts, we have included this picture grabbed from cyberspace to help illustrate WHEN YOU MUST STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS and when you may proceed with caution.

PLEASE BE ATTENTIVE & CAREFUL when operating a motor vehicle. We would much prefer this message reaches you, your family, and your friends to save a life before we would have to reach out to a driver with a large fine, points, and a driving privilege suspension.

A very special lady in Allegheny Township passed away in November 2020. Mabel Mazza was known by many from her work during elections. For years at Chieftain’s Archery Range, and then later at the Municipal Building, Mabel was one of the first smiling faces voters would see when they voted there. Mabel was also known by many from her 60 years working as a notary in the Township, and by others for her involvement and dedication to the Community Club. Fewer know that Mabel religiously attended municipal meetings in the Township. If the Board of Supervisors, the Sewage Authority, Planning Commission, or Zoning Hearing Board was meeting, Mabel was not only there, but fully prepared and ready to ask questions to make sure that Township residents’ interests were being met by their elected and appointed representatives.

At the legislative meeting of the Board of Supervisors’ on March 14, 2022 at 7 pm, the Supervisors will officially name our meeting room, Mabel V. Mazza Community Hall. It would be wonderful to fill the room with residents showing their appreciation for all that Mabel did for the Township, so if you can, please attend the meeting. Also, pass this along to anyone you know who might not see it on social media.

*** White Cloud/Bonfire Shortcut - BRIDGE CLOSURE COMING***

The closure of White Cloud Road over PA-56 will begin Monday 11/15/2021. The closure will not take affect until mid-morning, probably around 8:30a – 9a.

The morning bus route may continue the same as it has this week, but it will be forced to change for the afternoon route. We are still assuming a 3-day duration for the closure.

It is anticipated that this bridge will reopen on Wednesday 11/17/2021 around 5pm.

PA-356 CLOSURE UPDATE - CHANGES COMING ----->>>

Here is the word that we have on the upcoming changes to what is open, what is closed, and what is going to change...

First, the current PA-356 CLOSURE WILL NOT CHANGE/OPEN TODAY. This is due in part to several factors, the most important being that some key guide (not guard) rails are not completely installed. Signs, paint markings, etc. are also being put into place as we type this post.

When you leave to work, attend school, or vote tomorrow morning, PA-356 will still be closed as it is now. However, sometime between lunch and dinner PA-356 SHOULD LIKELY BE OPEN FROM THE CROSSROADS TO THE FREEPORT BRIDGE!!!

Once PA-356 is opened, and only after it is opened, will White Cloud Road (PA-4073) be closed between Garvers Ferry and PA-356. This is essentially a "one block" closure in the area of the Freeport Theater Festival building. If you need to access this area, the only way to do so will be from the Garvers Ferry end. Its a relatively short detour, so it shouldn't be too bad of an inconvenience. This portion of White Cloud Road will be closed for most of November, likely opening around the first weekday of rifle deer season (Monday after Thanksgiving for the non-hunters).

Also, during this time, the White Cloud Bridge over PA-56 will need to be closed for a couple days for temporary repairs. The specific details are not out, but that should only be a 3-4 day closure once it occurs. PA-356 will remain completely open during that time.

Once December hits, the PennDOT flowers (a.k.a traffic cones) will no longer be in season. All road construction should cease and all the roadways and bridges in this post will be completely open until the orange and white cones bloom again in Spring...

PLEASE LIKE & SHARE TO MAKE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE AWARE !!!

Route 356 Travelers Info and Dont Wait on 28 -----> GO!!!!

PS - ATPD and PSP will be monitoring PA-356 in case anyone is a little too enthusiastic about the roadway being opened. Remember, the speed limit is posted (45 MPH) and citations start around $200... and then there are the points!!!
