At the regular monthly legislative meeting earlier this week, Chief Fisher announced that the promotional process had been completed and subsequently recommended the advancement of two of your Allegheny Township police officers to the rank of Corporal.

The Township Supervisors unanimously approved the recommendation and are proud to announce the promotions of Officer Charity Hollis (Butz) and Officer Mark Junod.

Corporal Charity Hollis (Butz) has over 17 years law enforcement experience and is currently our School Resource Officer (SRO) in the KA District. She will continue to be able to serve in that capacity with the new rank. She has previous supervisory experience, grant/program management experience, and continues to seek training and education both here at the department and on her own.

Corporal Mark Junod has over 20 years law enforcement experience and is a Field Training Officer, SWAT operator on our regional team, and patrol unit member. He is currently responsible for warrant record management.

Both of these candidates have advocated for advancing technology and training to improve what we can do for our community. They were instrumental in organizing and hosting training that helped train officers from all around the SWPA region and beyond!

CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE NOT APPLIED, PRESS RELEASE STATES

Kittanning Borough Police Dept. on Wednesday issued a press release on an unemployment scam that has become very prevalent in the area, according to Kittanning Borough Police Dept. Chief Bruce Mathews.

“AS AN EMPLOYER... you must file and deny the claim or file a fraud report with the Department of Labor and Industry or the claim will be filed and affect your unemployment rates,” Mathews states. “Claims are being filed under your correct employer account number.”

AS A VICTIM... individuals should:
* contact their police department where they reside;
* check and monitor their credit report and follow up on any activity that is not theirs;
* realize that if a claim is not denied it may have tax implications at the end of the year.

If you live or work in Allegheny Township, report any such scam-related activity to the Allegheny Township Police at 724.845.9410 or call 911 if no answer is available at the station.

Well it doesn't feel like it today, but it is in fact Spring. Soon green grass , leaves, and colorful flowers will be sprouting. Likewise, PennDOT's arguably beautiful yet sometimes troublesome orange and white symbols of spring will be blooming en masse....

The next phase of work on SR 356 starts today. The affected area is between White Could Road and McCutcheon Shortcut/Pleasant Hill Road. This is an extensive project that will involve partial lane closures, potential full closures, and detours from time to time. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for the inevitable delays and congestion. Stay tuned and share information to help ease the the tensions of the motoring public!

You may want to consider using White Cloud Road between SR 56 (near the Bonfire Shortcut) and SR 356 to avoid the active work zone as much as possible as the project ramps up. Don't be tempted to turn off of White Cloud too soon in either direction or you may find yourself blocked by one of PennDOT's "horses".

In all seriousness, the goal of this project is to make 356 a safer, more efficient roadway for us all. Please do your best to bear with the work today to reap the long-term benefits tomorrow!!!
