Statement from Chief Paul Irwin:
I wanted to address the issue from anonymous complaints on Facebook and other social media. The Leeds Police Department investigates any complaint where a child or elderly person has or may have been victimized to protect the most vulnerable inside our jurisdiction. Once we received this information last week, we have been looking into the allegations and previous reports we may have taken. We were never contacted by a parent or by the school regarding a criminal complaint. We have investigated media information about incidents reported to them and have not found any criminal activity. We have researched and investigated allegations and found no criminal conduct that has occurred by any person who works for the Leeds City Schools. We have not received any criminal complaints or suspicion of criminal activity at Leeds Elementary School since I have been employed for the City of Leeds which began in 2021. I have been in law enforcement for over 30 years and the accusation that myself or our department may have covered up any abuse of a minor child is very insulting to myself, our profession and the officers who work at the Leeds Police Department. The safety of our children is the highest priority we have in the City of Leeds. All law enforcement agencies across the country have demonstrated over the last few years, with billions of dollars prioritized by local, state and the federal government for hiring School Resource Officers and technology. Every school in the Leeds City School System has a School Resource Officer. We have and share technology with our school system, and we have worked with the school system on safety and the application for grants to continue our efforts in making our schools and keeping our schools safe. We monitor activity in our schools and encourage anyone with information on criminal activity to report it to the Leeds Police Department as soon as possible.

Officer Pardue brings years of leadership to our school after serving many years as the Police Chief in Odenville. (Fun fact: He even starred in a viral video with his officers back in the day! ๐Ÿ“นโœจ) He also loves dogs - especially labs, hunting, and Alabama football! ๐Ÿˆ

Make sure to say hello to him when you see him on campus or in the carline this week!
