During the month of May 2026, Leeds Police Department SIU Detectives assigned to the Alabama internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) began an investigation into Dominic Aden Hill of Leeds, AL in reference to the possession of child s*xual abuse material. Detectives discovered that Dominic Hill was a registered s*x offender for the charge of 2nd degree s*xual exploitation of a minor from North Carolina.
Leeds Police Department SIU Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence of Dominic Hill through Shelby County. On 06/01/2026 SIU Detectives and members of Leeds Police Department SWAT team executed this search warrant in the 40 Block of Highway 478 Leeds, AL. During the search and subsequent investigation, Dominic Hill was found to be in possession of hundreds of images of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Hill was taken into custody and transported to the Shelby County Jail.
Dominic Aden Hill is charged with 10 counts of possession of child po*******hy and 1 count of dissemination of child po*******hy. He is currently housed in the Shelby County Jail with a bond of $180,000. This is still an active investigation with more charges expected to follow.
Chief Irwin stated " I am very proud of our Investigation Unit for working with other agencies to locate individuals who exploit imagines of children. This person found the wrong place to relocate to from North Carolina and hopefully he will return somewhere else after his incarceration. We would like to thank the Oxford Police Department East Metro Area Crime Center (EMACC) for assisting with this investigation and our other agency partners who work with us each day to make Alabama safer."

City of Leeds Announces Installation of 135-Foot Flagpole at Memorial Park

LEEDS, Ala. — The City of Leeds is proud to announce the installation of a new 135-foot flagpole at Leeds Memorial Park, featuring a massive 30-by-60-foot American flag that will stand as a powerful symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and honor.

Known proudly as “The City of Valor,” Leeds is home to three Medal of Honor recipients, a distinction that reflects the extraordinary courage and service deeply rooted in the community’s history. The new flag and flagpole will serve as a lasting tribute to the veterans, active military members, and fallen heroes who have defended our nation’s freedoms.

This important project was made possible through the leadership and vision of Mayor Eddie Moore and the Leeds City Council, whose commitment to honoring the city’s military heritage helped bring the effort to life.

“This flag will be a proud reminder of what Leeds stands for,” said Mayor Moore. “As the City of Valor, it is important that we continue to honor the brave men and women who have served our country and recognize the incredible legacy represented in our community.”

The 135-foot structure and oversized American flag are expected to become a defining landmark for Leeds and a centerpiece of Memorial Park. City leaders hope the monument will serve not only as a place of reflection and remembrance, but also as a source of pride for generations to come.

The City of Leeds extends its appreciation to all those who contributed to the project and remains dedicated to preserving and celebrating the community’s strong tradition of military service and patriotism.

On May 7, 2026, at 7:57PM, the Leeds Police Department responded to the 7900 Block of Charles Barkley Avenue on a person who had been assaulted with scissors. Once on the scene, Officers observed the victim who had been assaulted and had injuries to his neck, face and chest. The Leeds Fire and Rescue were on the scene, and the victim was transported to UAB with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Defendant Travaris Donnay Walton 48, of Leeds was the suspect and he had fled the scene on foot.
At 8:15PM, Officers located the Defendant in the 7400 Block of Mississippi Avenue. The Defendant refused to comply with officer’s commands, and he was tased, which had little to no effects on the Defendant. The Defendant charged the officers and struck one in the head. The Officers took the Defendant to the ground, and he attempted to remove an officer’s weapon and bit the officer. Another officer who was attempting to get the defendant to comply injured his hand. After a continued struggle, the Defendant was handcuffed and removed from the scene after spitting on a firefighter. The two officers and a firefighter were all taken and treated for injuries and exposures on the scene.
The Defendant was arrested and is being transported to the county jail on the following charges with a $159,000 bond.
Attempted Murder x2, Assault 2nd Degree x2, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Chief Irwin stated “this is an individual who had previously served time in prison and is a menace to society. He has continuously assaulted people since his release from prison on parole. It is an absolute injustice that someone with his criminal record is out on the streets of Leeds and the Birmingham Metro Area. Hopefully, he can be removed from the street now and returned to prison to protect our community and every law enforcement officer that encounters him. When you see these reports and the previous charges and convictions, it is absolutely shocking to me that he has remained in the community. The State of Alabama and the communities we serve deserve better when it comes to prosecutions and the parole boards. I am thankful for the actions of our officers, and I am thankful no one died from the actions caused by Travaris Donnay Walton. It is apparent, that he wanted to kill someone last night and only had a pair of scissors but attempted to disarm a police officer. The main question I have in this case now is why does he have a bond after attempting to kill a citizen and police officers?”
