Because when a child is diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes hearts are broken, lives are rearranged, and days are never the same. Something extraordinary is needed and we have it. Kids With Courage Brave Boxes have been empowering kids and families since 2007. We see them, we're not going to let them feel alone. We are committed to continuing our mission of helping kids and families face the fear of this devastating medical diagnosis, help them thru the shock, helplessness, pain and sorrow. Brave Boxes are bright and cheerful, and make kids smile at a dark, difficult time. Overflowing with tangible, practical, essential tools, Brave Boxes are designed to empower, filled with care and love, help families grow stronger, and prepares them for their forever fight.

Kids With Courage is now accepting applications for Volunteer Youth Ambassador for it's annual gala event, One Inspired Evening taking place on Saturday, November 7, 2026

Kids With Type 1, age 3-18 are invited to apply. There is volunteer work involved, but it is a lot of fun too!

Our help begins in the hospital at the time a child is diagnosed. When Type 1 diabetes strikes children are very ill and are rushed to the hospital. Medical teams treat their medical emergency, and help them feel better, but there is no cure. The sorrow in that is impossible to describe as this particular grief road is so long it stretches lifelong. Families are scared, drowning with emotion and overwhelmed with everything they have to learn to keep their child alive.

Empowering families thru our programs is what we do. Our Brave Boxes are either wooden or cardboard boxes, bright and cheerful, make kids smile and are overflowing with tangible, practical, helpful, essential tools, guidance, resources and direction. They are filled with care and love helping them come to grips with their new difficult reality, lets them know they're not alone, impact the way they approach that challenge and view their world.

Thank you Children's Mercy medical teams for your amazing care and for realizing the importance and empowerment that comes from giving your patients Brave Boxes and making them part of your treatment plan for the past 19 years! Another big batch delivered today.

The incredible KC Royals have generously given us tickets and parking passes for Kids With Courage Day at the K for SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2026.

As a Kids With Courage supporter, volunteer, or family where Type 1 lives, you're invited to join the fun of tailgating, food, and games, then watch our boys in blue. After the game, kids 14 and under can run the bases. Bring your family and friends.

To NURSES everywhere, HAPPY NURSES WEEK! (May 6-12)

It's the perfect time say how much we appreciate the caring hearts, compassionate ways and capable hands of NURSES everywhere. THANK YOU! It takes a kind, generous soul and beautiful spirit to be a nurse.

Special shout out to the school nurses and caregivers too. The dedication needed to ensure a safe, caring and positive learning environment, and manage the many medical needs for a child with Type 1 diabetes isn't easy.
