Today, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to formally recognize Detention Center Interim Director Lucas Castilleja for his distinguished career and ongoing contributions to the field of corrections and public service.
Interim Director Castilleja earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Sociology, from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He brings nearly twenty years of progressive experience in the criminal justice system, marked by leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to professional standards.
From 2010 to 2018, Interim Director Castilleja served with Jackson County Family Court in multiple roles of increasing responsibility, including Superintendent. In this role, he functioned as facility head and led efforts to maintain compliance with national, state, and federal standards.
His accomplishments include successful accreditation audits, implementation of trauma-informed care practices, advancement of strategic inmate management techniques to reduce the use of solitary confinement, and development of collaborative programs to support at-risk youth.
Since 2019, Interim Director Castilleja has served various roles within Jackson County Detention Center including Accreditation Manager, the coordinator of the Training and Safety and Security Units, PREA Coordinator, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and liaison to medical and mental health service providers. His work has supported key initiatives such as the implementation of a Medication Assisted Treatment program and collaboration on statewide mental health and competency restoration efforts.
Interim Director Castilleja maintains active involvement in the broader corrections community. He serves on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Correctional Training Personnel, represents his agency in the Blueprint for Safety workgroup addressing domestic violence, and is a frequent presenter at national conferences for correctional and law enforcement professionals.
Interim Director Castilleja demonstrates strong leadership skills that will continue to lead us in our transition period to the new detention center. His career reflects a sustained dedication to integrity, leadership, professionalism, and the advancement of correctional practices.
