The thoughts and prayers of the Lee’s Summit Underwater Recovery Team are with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, as well as the family, friends, and colleagues of Corporal Gary Daniels.

The tragic loss of Corporal Daniels is a heartbreaking reminder of the heavy, often unseen burdens carried by those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our communities. As public safety divers and first responders, we know firsthand the unique and profound stressors faced by our law enforcement partners, dispatchers, and fellow emergency personnel daily.

No one should ever have to carry that weight alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please remember that confidential, dedicated resources are available 24/7. We urge our fellow responders and community members to reach out if they need help:
988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (Free, confidential, and available nationwide).
Copline (Law Enforcement Peer Support): Call 1-800-267-5463 to speak confidentially with a trained, retired law enforcement officer.
First Responder Crisis Support: Text BADGE to 741741 for specialized crisis counseling tailored to first responders.
The Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor.

We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Missouri law enforcement family during this incredibly difficult time. Please take care of yourselves and look out for one another.

National Safe Boating Week continues! 🚤

Today’s reminder: prepare for the unexpected.

From changing weather to equipment emergencies, being ready before you leave the dock can make all the difference. Make sure you have the proper safety gear, communication devices, and a plan in place before heading out on the water.

As a proud local partner in the National Safe Boating Campaign, we encourage everyone to boat safe and boat prepared this summer. 🌊

It’s National Safe Boating Week! As the weather warms up and summer adventures on the water begin, don’t forget that a safe day on the lake starts before you ever leave the dock.

One simple step that can make a big difference is filing a float plan — let someone know where you’re going, who’s with you, and when you expect to return. If plans change, make sure they know that too.

As a proud local partner of the Safe Boating Campaign, we’re helping share important reminders all week long to keep our community safe on the water.

It's National Safe Boating Week! Day 3 - Tip 3: File a float plan – let someone know when and where you’re boating.

One meeting.

One training.

Unlimited attempts at social media relevance.

You never expect the day to go wrong on the water… which is exactly why you wear the PFD before it does.

Today we’re supporting Wear Your Life Jacket at Work Day and reminding everyone that safe days on the water start before the boat leaves the dock.

Wear it. Normalize it. Encourage others to do the same.

We’ve seen firsthand what happens on the water when things go wrong. That’s why we’re passionate about prevention.

As your local partner of the National Safe Boating Council, we’re spreading the word this boating season: wear your life jacket.

A properly fitted PFD can mean the difference between a close call and a tragedy.

Stay safe out there. 🧡

🚨INCIDENT REPORT: VEHICLE RECOVERY🚨

Location: Longview Lake Marina
Date: May 8, 2026

The Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue & Recovery (LSUR) team was dispatched to the Longview Lake Marina following reports of a vehicle entering the water shortly after 10:00 PM. Upon arriving on the scene, crews immediately deployed Boat 1.

We report that the driver had been successfully rescued from the water prior to our arrival. Our team quickly located the submerged vehicle roughly 150 feet into the lake. Two LSUR divers were deployed into the water, where they confirmed the truck was resting upright on the lake floor. Working in close coordination with GT Towing, our divers secured an anchor line to the vehicle’s rear bumper. Through a joint effort, the truck was successfully recovered from the water at approximately 12:38 AM.

After the recovery, the team returned to headquarters to decontaminate equipment and reset our gear. LSUR was back in service for the next call just after 2:00 AM. Operations like this highlight the vital importance of coordination and dedication. We want to extend a sincere thank you to GT Towing, Jackson County Park Rangers, Jackson County Sheriffs Office, KCPD, KCFD, and Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional assistance on the shoreline.

Most importantly, we want to thank our volunteers. These individuals drop everything in the middle of the night to answer the call. We truly cannot do what we do without the unwavering support of our team and the community we serve.

you heard Master Yoda! Choose to be safe for yourself and your loved ones!

Don't let the dark side take over. There is no trying when it comes to safety on the water.

For 60 years, this team has stood ready to serve through changing times, evolving equipment, and countless calls when our community needed us most.

But anniversaries like this aren’t really about the number.
They’re about the people.

The men and women who came before us…
who answered the call without recognition,
who trained in conditions far different than today,
who built this team from the ground up, one dive, one mission, one lesson at a time.

In this post, you’ll see just a glimpse of that legacy in photos of our alumni, grouped by the decades they served. Each face represents dedication, sacrifice, and a commitment to something bigger than themselves.

Because of them, we have a foundation.

Because of them, we have a standard to live up to.

Because of them, we’re still here, 60 years later, continuing the mission.

To every diver, tender, leader, and supporter who helped shape this team over the years: thank you. Your impact hasn’t faded, it lives on in everything we do today.

We are proud to carry it forward.

Please note: the photos shared here include alumni who were able to attend the reunion and are only a small representation of the many individuals who have been part of this team over the past 60 years.
