Yesterday we got to be a part of the annual "100 hours of Service" day organized by the Rotary Club of Lee's Summit.

Being at Coldwater of Lee's Summit was inspiring and heart wrenching.

Due to widespread federal cuts in nonprofit funding, Harvesters KC (and countless others) have been drastically impacted. And the impact is trickling to the KC food pantries they serve.

So with several pantries closing in Lees Summit, Coldwater and Lee's Summit Social Services will be taking on much higher call volumes.

Coldwater has gone from 400 visitors a month to 550, and will continue to increase.

Unbelievable service is provided:

- visitors schedule 15 minute appointments,

- come in and make a quick grocery list based on the food available on that day,

- volunteers fill their grocery carts while the guests pull out things they may need from the clothing closet.

Absolutely exceptional and compassionate service.

What would we do without these amazing humans and nonprofits in our communities. 🙏

Lee's Summit is continuing to thrive! 💙 congrats to LS Parks and Recreation has been named a finalist for the 2026 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. One of the highest honors in the field!!

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR) has been selected as a finalist for the 2026 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, one of the highest distinctions in the field.

LSPR is one of four agencies named as finalists in Class III, which includes communities with populations between 75,001 and 150,000. Finalists will be evaluated for the Grand Plaque, awarded to one agency in each class during the NRPA Annual Conference, taking place September 29 through October 1, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Grateful to be sworn into City Council on behalf of District 3!

Heard over an hour of absolutely heartwarming stories of integrity, appreciation, admiration and deep mutual respect - among all the existing council members about each other - for their time spent together on the council.

Loved hearing about their healthy journeys of how they've worked through differences with respect - and at their core - they all are here to do their best for Lees Summit.

And all had amazing words of respect for Mayor Baird's leadership; he deserved to hear these comments. 🏆

So much respect for those coming off the Dias, and I'm looking forward to serving with integrity, with our new pledge class.

We will be working hard to keep our city proud!

Your feedback is needed on the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which outlines anticipated City infrastructure improvements for fiscal years 2027-2031.

Recurring voters - thanks for your participation! According to MO state law, all our Missouri cities and school boards have held elections on the first Tuesday in April, for the past 30+ years.

As usual, next year, LSR7 School Board elections will be Tue, April 6, 2027. (And our city council elections are every other year on this date). Thanks for increasing voter turnout!

Sad news for this weekend in LS, thank you to MCC for hosting this amazing community event every year. Next year will be the 20th anniversary and it will be even better! 💙
