February 6-12, 2022 is National Burn Awareness Week. This year's burn awareness campaign has focused on preventing burns in the kitchen by following important kitchen safety tips.
As Burn Awareness Week comes to a close, we wanted to raise awareness about the DC Burn Center. While we always try to prevent injuries and burns, sometimes while attempting to save lives and while fighting fires, firefighters get burned. When this happens the DC Burn Center is where we send our firefighters to be treated.

Within 50 seconds of arrival a recent townhome fire went from fully engulfed to nearly no visible flames thanks to the work of our outstanding Fire & Rescue heroes!
Thankfully no one was injured in this fire to include the family cat! And the firewall between townhomes did it’s job to protect the neighboring home.
The cause of this fire was determined to be an improperly grounded extension cord powering two battery chargers. The cord eventually overheated resulting in fire.
The time from 911 call to first Fire & Rescue unit arrival was 6 minutes and 29 seconds.
Thanks for all you do to keep us safe Loudoun Combined Fire & Rescue System career and volunteer heroes!
