We’ve got burls! A burl is a growth at the base of the Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). This growth is packed with unsprouted dormant buds, which are a genetic copy of the tree. You might call this an insurance policy should anything happen to the tree as the burl will sprout and a new tree will be born. Burls make great house plants and if you choose you can plant the burl and grow your very own redwood tree.

Tuesday, October 13, Day Two of the 300 SL Classic 2026 Rally found these beautiful cars tripping through Drive-Thru Tree Park. The 300 SL is a two-seat sports car that was produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1954 to 1957 as a gullwinged coup and from 1957 to 1963 as a roadster. It was quite a treat for us and our visitors to view these iconic vehicles, to take pictures and to talk with the owners and drivers. The tour this year is through the California W**e Country from October 11 through October 17 so there is still an opportunity for you to see these classics as they wind their way through the hills and valleys of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.

Traveling through the redwoods is magical. Getting out of your car to breathe is refreshing. Walking among these giants is mystical. Be sure to look closely at the trees, the ground, the sky using your imagination. What did you find? Was it something like the window whale?
