🚜 Get these kids a hard hat!👷🏻‍♂️

PathStone Head Start hosted a 'Touch-a-Truck' event yesterday in honor of National Public Works Week.

The Borough wants to stress the importance of public service and safety. What better way than to show off the equipment up close?

Children in the Head Start program were invited to learn about the equipment that keeps their town operating and to thank our hard-working guys for their service.

The Lehighton Public Works crew showcased their new street sweeper and dump truck alongside the crowd-favorite CAT front-end loader!

Children got to take a seat behind the wheel, climb in the bucket, and even honk the horn for their classmates.

The Borough wants to thank PathStone for hosting the event, for giving us some time in the shade, and for the yummy lunch!

👷🏻‍♂️National Public Works Week 🚧

Whether it's patching streets or plowing snow, the Lehighton Public Works crew is right around the corner to lend a hand 24 hours a day!

Did you know that our Public Works crew consists of 8 staff members, with some having over 30 years on the job? Each one of our crew members has a Class B or Class A commercial driver's license and is trained in First Aid and CPR.

Some of our employees hold special certifications for handling pool chemicals and pesticides. We even have a full-time mechanic who services everything from weed-whackers to firetrucks!

You've probably seen us around town. If we're not working on your street, we're probably on the next block laying asphalt, repairing a storm sewer basin, or keeping our parks beautiful!

The Borough wants to say thank you to the Public Works guys because they keep Lehighton moving year-round!

Where do I put my trash receptacles? ♻️

PennDOT has begun laying asphalt on the North and Mahoning paving project.

Crews are doing their best to open roadways during non-working hours, but some streets may remain closed overnight until the project is complete.

Residents and businesses who put their trash out along North Street and the westbound lane of 300 Mahoning Street are asked to wheel their trash and recycling toters to the nearest side street.

If your trash pick up will be affected by the paving project, please wheel your receptacles to First, Second, Third, or Fourth Street for tomorrow’s pickup.

If you are unable to get your trash to a side street, please call Tamaqua Transfer to arrange an alternative pick-up.

PennDOT will be performing curb-to-curb paving of North Street and the 300 Block of Mahoning Street Westbound within the next two weeks.

During the anticipated 3-day project, businesses will remain open, but no drive-up access to the bank, library, and post office will be provided.

East Alley, Second Street, Center Alley, Third Street, and West Alley will all be closed to through-traffic. These streets will remain open for local traffic, but no access through the project site will be granted during active construction.

Please be mindful of any road closure or no-parking signage in these areas. Lehighton PD, Lehighton Public Works, and PennDOT thank residents in advance for their cooperation as we navigate these much-needed road repairs.

Any updates to the paving schedule will be posted here and on the Borough website.

🚨Lehighton First Responder Spotlight🚨

The Lehighton Borough is proud to announce that Lehighton Fire Chief Patrick Mriss and Assistant Fire Chief Michael Mriss have recently received the recognition of “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO) from the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC).

Chief Mriss and Assistant Chief Mriss have become two of only 2,244 CFOs worldwide and two of only 65 CFOs in Pennsylvania. This is a great accomplishment for the Lehighton Fire Department.

CFO designation is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan for their Agency.

The CPC performs comprehensive peer review by individuals from academia, federal and local government, and emergency services to evaluate candidates seeking this credential. The CPC awards the designation only after an individual successfully meets all the organization’s stringent criteria.

Achieving this designation signifies Chief Mriss’ and Assistant Chief Mriss’ career commitment to the Lehighton Fire Department.
