🚒🔥 PUBLIC SAFETY DAY & FAMILY FOOD & FUN FESTIVAL! 🔥🚒

Today, the Leicester Fire Department had a great time participating in the Town’s Public Safety Day & Family Food & Fun Festival on the Common!

Our firefighters thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with our community, answering questions, talking fire safety, and giving tours of our apparatus. There was plenty of hands-on learning for all ages!

🏠 Families toured our Fire Safety House, where we talked about what to do if a fire occurs in your home and the importance of having and practicing a home escape plan.

🚒 Our future firefighters got to show off their skills on the flame house, grabbing the hose and knocking down every last “flame!”

🔥 We demonstrated our dollhouse fire behavior prop, giving spectators a firsthand look at how quickly heat and smoke travel through a residence—and just how much of a difference a closed bedroom door can make. Close Before You Doze!

🧯 Residents also got hands-on practice using fire extinguishers on a live-fire training prop while learning the PASS method — Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep—and why having an ABC fire extinguisher readily available in the home is important.

Throughout the day, firefighters handed out fire-safety information, answered questions, and signed residents up for Leicester’s Reflective Address Sign Program, helping make homes easier for emergency responders to locate when seconds count.

And once the demonstrations wrapped up, we decided it was time to showcase another one of our specialties… elite athletic competition. 😎

Unfortunately, once the Leicester Police Department caught a glimpse of the raw athletic talent coming from the fire department, they wisely retreated to the safety of their cruisers. 🚓😂 We understand. Not everyone is built for the wheelbarrow race. Maybe next year, LPD! 🚒🏆

A huge THANK YOU and kudos to everyone who helped organize and put on today’s events on the Common. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make a community event like this happen, and we were proud to be a part of it.

We had a blast spending the day with our community—and we’re already planning for next year!

🚒TRAINING NEVER STOPS 🚒

This past week, your Leicester firefighters focused on improving their skills in stabilizing vehicles, lifting, and extricating victims.

Crews completed hands-on training using rescue struts and stabilization systems to secure vehicles, as well as high-pressure rescue air bags to safely lift vehicles and create access points. Firefighters also practiced how to reach, protect, and safely remove trapped occupants.

Vehicle crashes often involve unstable vehicles, limited access, and rapidly changing hazards. Regular training like this helps our firefighters stay confident and skilled with the specialized equipment and teamwork needed to operate safely, efficiently, and effectively when every second counts.

A great night of practical training and teamwork by our crews!

🚒📚 A Busy Week for Leicester SAFE! ❤️🔥

This week, Leicester firefighters had a great time visiting the Leicester Extended School Year Program and our friends in the Children’s Room at the Leicester Public Library as part of the SAFE Program!

We talked with the kids about fire safety, why firefighters are community helpers, and what to do in an emergency. We also had the opportunity to speak with many parents and grandparents about the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in every home.

A big thank you to everyone who welcomed us—we always enjoy connecting with our community!

🚒🎨 Leicester Fire Department Summer Fire Safety Art Challenge! 🎨🚒

School may be out, but fire safety never takes a vacation!

We’re inviting all Leicester kids to help us spread an important message by creating a fire safety poster with this summer’s theme:

🔥 “Check Your Smoke Alarms Every Month!” 🔥

Be creative! Draw your family, firefighters, smoke alarms, pets, your home, or anything that reminds people to test their smoke alarms every month. Use crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils—or any style you like!

How to Enter:
🖍️ Create your poster.
📸 Have a parent or guardian take a photo of it.
📩 Send it to us through Facebook Messenger (or email if preferred).
👧 Include your child’s first name and age.

Throughout the summer, we’ll feature artwork from our young artists right here on our page to help remind everyone that working smoke alarms save lives!

Every child who participates will receive a Leicester Fire Department Certificate of Appreciation!
