🚨 ‼️ COMMUNITY ALERT ‼️ 🚨

In the early morning hours this morning, Thursday, August 20, 2026 around 2:00AM, a resident in the Winslow Ave/Paxton Street area had their unlocked cars burglarized.

If you or your neighbors have experienced missing items taken from their unlocked cars or if their unlocked cars were entered and rifled through OR if you have any surveillance footage of people in your neighborhood during this time frame, please call the Leicester Police Department at (508) 892-7010 option 8 and speak to a dispatcher.

Help us to help you...LOCK UP YOUR CARS. When your car is locked, these criminals move on to an easier target. It's that simple.

What a great turnout last night at Leicester's Public Safety Day!

Special thanks to representatives from the Dudley Police Department (Officer Pacheco & K9 Maverick) Worcester County Sheriff's Office, Umass Lifeflight, Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office, CEMLEC Swat Team, Officer Ronald Tarentino, Jr. Charitable Fund for joining with us and Leicester Fire to make the night a success.

Additionally, we want to thank Leicester Walmart, Cornerstone Bank, Country Bank, Thee Taco Dude, Travelin' Bones Barbecue, The Jerky Boys & Bri's Sweet Treats who came out to help make last night a success.

This sweet little one was found roaming Pleasant Street by Hillcrest CC around 8:45 PM this evening and was helped to safety by a nice family and a passer-by in a car.

She's the sweetest little German Shepherd and we hope her family comes forward. She is tagged out of Clinton, MA.

Scammers are a disease...and we're offering you a cure!

The LPD has received recent reports of this "Grandparent Scam" making the rounds again.

Have you heard this one? It goes like this...a loved one is "hurt", "in trouble" or "in-custody" and a high-pressure person on the other line (pretending to be an attorney, police officer, judge, court clerk, nurse, doctor, etc.) is telling you they need to be bailed or medical costs need to be prepaid before treatment is rendered. The circumstances are suspicious and unverified and they need cash or gift cards RIGHT NOW.

Scammers offer a ridiculous solution such as a going to the store and buying gift cards, and calling them back with the codes off the gift cards, or perhaps the good-old "bonded courier" solution to come and collect the cash. The high pressure part should be a huge red flag!

Real life situations don't entail high pressure tactics or strange instructions. When in doubt, SLOW THINGS DOWN and CALL THE LOVED ONE IN QUESTION (or call other family members) or call us at 508-892-7010 (not the phone numbers these "officials" provide you). We can help you assess the situation and keep you from making a costly mistake!

These scammers aim to exploit your emotions and generosity. Together we can lower their success rate! Don't be a victim!

The sky is blue, water is wet and scams never cease! The last one is a sad truth. Take a look at Sturbridge PD's recent scam alert they're shining a light on!

The Sturbridge Police Department is warning residents about an active phone scam.

Scammers are calling local residents and claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued against them for missing jury duty. This is completely false.

What you need to know:

The police department and courts will never call you to demand payment, gift cards, or wire transfers for missed jury duty or outstanding warrants.

Scammers often spoof local phone numbers to make the call look legitimate.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. Do not share personal or financial information.

Please spread the word to protect family members and neighbors who might be vulnerable to these tactics. If you have concerns about a caller claiming to be law enforcement, hang up and call Sturbridge Police directly.

Motor Vehicle Breaks Reported in Area Towns Surrounding Leicester

Area towns are reporting an increase in car break (aka car break-in) reports happening to UNLOCKED vehicles. Most of these crimes are ones of opportunity...so don't give them the opportunity.

Lock up your vehicles and keep valuables out of sight!

Last night at the Leicester Select Board meeting, Chief Antanavica and town leadership took a moment to recognize a longtime and beloved officer embarking upon his well-deserved retirement.

Michael Lombardozzi, or "Lombo" as he is affectionately known, officially retired this past month after 18 dedicated years of service to the Town of Leicester.

Lombo is the epitome of a dedicated public servant. From his military service to the nation in the US Coast Guard, to his 18 years with the Town of Leicester, he has left an indelible mark on the town for others to aspire to!

Your retirement is well deserved and we wish you well as you enter this new phase of life!!
