Healthy Living Mobile Market

Wednesday, June 24@ 1pm

The market provides fresh produce paired with healthy recipes and a variety of community resources.
Bring your grocery bags and get fresh food for your family. All are welcome, regardless of income or family size. Distributions are free and no paperwork is required.
While you're here, stop in to get a free library card if you don't have one, pick up a cookbook or two to experiment with your bundle of groceries, or grab a DVD to watch while snacking.

Staff Pick Saturday

Ann Patchett's new book Whistler is at the top of my To Read list, but as you probably know it's popular. It could be a good long while before I get it in the library. If you're also waiting for Whistler, allow me to recommend two of my favorite Ann Patchett books to help you bide the time.

State of Wonder starts in Minnesota and ends in the Amazon. It's epic. It follows Dr. Marina Singh, a pharmaceutical research scientist who is sent to Brazil to find her mentor who disappeared in the rainforest studying plants for a new drug. It's a page turner, but also in true Ann Patchett style it's a beautiful story about people, relationships, and life choices all set in exquisitely described locations.

My other favorite Ann Patchett book is Commonwealth. Like Whistler, Commonwealth is somewhat based on her real-life family and involves the man who became her stepfather. In Commonwealth, we get the saga of the family story: how a kiss at a party broke up one family and formed another complicated blended one. If you like family stories, this is a true winner.

We've got these two and some other Ann Patchett books here at the Leicester Library, so come check them out while you wait (and wait) for Whistler!

Buncombe County Public Libraries will be closed Friday and Saturday, July 3-4, 2026, for Independence Day. They will reopen Monday, July 6 or Tuesday, July 7, 2026, depending on local schedules.
