Congratulations to Chief David Riley. Today marks his last day in uniform after 35 years of service. Most citizens of leitchfield have never known of a Leitchfield Police Department without David Riley in uniform. Thank you Chief for your service and commitment to our department and our community. Good luck in your next chapter. Monica's to do list is waiting for you.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Watch out for fake utility disconnection calls!We have received reports of scammers calling residents and businesses claiming to be from LG&E/KU, threatening to shut off their electricity for non-payment. In a recent instance, a scammer called Dairy Queen claiming the power would be cut off immediately—even though the business actually uses WRECC!

🚗☀️ Hot Cars Can Be Deadly – Protect Children & Pets ☀️🚗
As temperatures rise, even a few minutes inside a parked vehicle can become life-threatening. A car's interior temperature can increase rapidly, putting children and pets at serious risk of heat-related illness or death.
Remember:
✅ Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle—not even for a minute.
✅ Always check the back seat before locking your car.
✅ Keep vehicles locked when parked to prevent children from entering on their own.
✅ If you see a child or pet alone in a hot car, call 911 immediately.

Friendly reminder of the City of Leitchfield’s fireworks ordinance - Most importantly be safe and courteous of others!

93.06 IGNITION OF FIREWORKS.
(A) As used in this section, the term FIREWORKS, includes any pyrotechnical device that is explosive or audible or an aerial device in function when ignited as defined in KRS 227.702.
(B) Fireworks may only be used, ignited, fired or exploded between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. within the city; provided, however, that the ignition of fireworks is permitted between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and midnight for the period of December 31 and January 1 of each year and on July 3, July 4 and on Memorial Day of each. year.
(C) The limitations set forth in division (B) shall not apply to events sponsored by municipal, religious or civic groups to the extent sanctioned by the city.
(D) All sales of fireworks shall comply with the provisions of KRS 227.715.
(E) Violation of this section shall be punished as a violation.

***Press Release***

On 6/18/2026, LPD investigated allegations of sexual assault of a minor that were reported during an unrelated call for service. 42 year old, Christopher Hayes was arrested for R**e, 1st Degree, Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree, and Assault 4th Degree. Through investigation it was found that Hayes had engaged in sexual in*******se and deviate sexual acts with a juvenile over 50 times over the course of several years. The suspect admitted to the acts that were alleged and was placed under arrest after his admission during an interview at LPD.
This investigation is ongoing and we believe additional charges will be sought. Further information may be released as evidence is confirmed. Further details of this investigation may not be released to protect the identity and out of respect for any victims involved.
It is paramount that individuals with knowledge of sexual abuse of a child report quickly and to the proper authorities. Officers acted quickly during this investigation to remove the threat to any potential victims. Hayes was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center without further incident.

We grieve with Officer Fentress and his law enforcement family. This is a tragedy for a K9 and his handler. Zeus made an impact in our county and for our agency before transferring to Elizabethtown with Officer Fentress and we are thankful for his service.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our beloved K-9s, K-9 Zeus, who tragically died during training last week.

K-9s are more than working partners, they are members of their handlers family. Each K-9 lives at home with their handler, and the bond formed between a handler, their family, and their K-9 is unlike any other.

Out of respect for the handler and his family, we ask for privacy and understanding during this incredibly difficult time. We appreciate the prayers, support, and compassion shown to our agency and to those most affected by this loss.
