Over the years, it transitioned to a combination department. In 2017 the department became a part of the Town of Leland. Today, the department consists of over 30 full-time career staff, 20 part-time positions and volunteer staff operating out of two fire stations, with a third station to be staffed in 2021. We protect and provide service to approximately 35,000 residents in the Town of Leland, the Town of Bellville and parts of northern Brunswick County. Our career staff works in three shifts (A, B and C) of 24 hours each with their workday starting at 7:00am and ending at 7:00am the next morning. Each shift staffs two engine companies, one truck company and an on-duty Battalion Chief. Currently the truck company also cross-staffs a heavy rescue unit containing our technical rescue equipment. We have part-time staff that helps us fill in any openings we have when full-time staff are off on leave. Our volunteer firefighters will also work in 6, 12, or 24 hours shifts to add to our on-duty staffing. Emergency services we provide:
