A couple weeks ago we sent 7 members to Kirkland Fire Department for a IFSI RIT training course. RIT involves around anything to do with a down firefighter. Absolutely worst case scenarios, and we must train on them. We want to thank Kirkland for the hospitality and to the great instructors at IFSI. And thank you to thoes members that continue push themselfs to help keep our communities safe!

Bonus: when all these departments returned towards home, they came across a couple young kids that had a lemonade stand, dozens of fire trucks parked along the road with their lights on, to show support to the younger generation that hopefully they will never forget that moment. Picture of a small group including our leland members is attached in Kirklands post.

Yesterday evening we hosted a live fire LP burn training event. Liquefied Petroleum (LP) gas burn training is one of the most realistic and controlled live-fire training environments used by fire departments to prepare firefighters for propane and flammable gas emergencies. These evolutions are designed to teach personnel how to safely recognize, control, extinguish, and mitigate LP gas incidents while operating under live fire

LP burn training improves firefighter proficiency in:
-Hose handling under live fire
-Reading flame patterns and heat conditions
-Hazard recognition
-Fireground communication
-Incident command coordination
-Hazardous materials awareness
-Firefighter survival and situational awareness

Many firefighters describe propane training as one of the most valuable live-fire experiences because it closely simulates industrial, residential, agricultural, and transportation-related gas emergencies.

We would like to thank the surrounding communities that came to join us for this training Somonauk Community Fire Protection District Serena Firefighter's Association Waterman Fire Department, Lee Volunteer Fire Department, Kirkland Fire Department

***PUBLIC NOTICE***

Tonight, Leland Fire Department will be hosting an LP (Propane) Firefighting Class. East Railroad Street will be closed from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM while emergency responders train on handling flammable gas emergencies and propane-related incidents safely and effectively.

This training can be very impressive to watch — from a safe distance. Community members are welcome to observe from down the street; however, for everyone’s safety, please do not walk past any road closures or barricades.

We look forward to providing this important hands-on training opportunity for our responders and appreciate the community’s support and cooperation.

May is Drowning Awareness Prevention Month

Sadly, it only takes a moment. May is Drowning Prevention Awareness Month, and your attention can make all the difference.

Unfortunately, this is a heartbreaking call first responders go to, and it remains one of the most tragic medical emergencies in our work.

Please take a moment to review these tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

👀 Always assign a dedicated water watcher who stays focused and avoids distractions.

❤️ Learn CPR for adults and children so you can act immediately.

📱 Keep your cell phone nearby to call 911 without delay.

🔇 Remember, drowning is silent, so stay alert and attentive.

🪣 Know that children can drown in as little as two inches of water, including bathtubs, buckets, and toilets.

🤝 Stay within arm’s reach of young children. Active supervision matters most.

🚪 Make sure barriers like gates and doors are always secured.

👨‍👩‍👧 Talk with your family about what to do in an emergency before it happens.

Stay present, stay prepared, and help prevent a tragedy before it begins.
