Per Village Code, a solicitor, peddler, canvasser permit is required by ordinance in the Village of Leland to regulate door-to-door sales, charity drives, and public canvassing (some exceptions apply).
The reasons for requiring a permit is to prevent fraud, ensure resident safety through background checks, and protect privacy by curbing intrusive or deceptive sales practices.
Permit applications can be obtained through the Leland Village Hall or the Leland Police Department.
All solicitors should have a Village solicitor’s photo ID badge visible on their outer garment at all times when they are engaged in soliciting within the Village.
If a solicitor does not display and cannot produce a solicitor’s photo ID badge or permit, they may not be licensed to solicit within the Village.
In addition, all solicitors must obey posted “No Solicitor” signs.
Any incidents may be reported to the Leland Police Department by calling the Non-Emergency Number (815) 495-2351.
