We’re looking ahead to the 2026-27 school year, and that includes welcoming our incredible new staff members! Join us as we get to know them and welcome them to .

Erin Malloy joins us this year as a third grade teacher at River Valley. “I was really inspired to join the 113A team because of their clear commitment to both academic growth and building strong relationships with faculty and students,” she shared. “From what I’ve learned, collaboration among staff and creating a supportive environment where students thrive is strongly valued. I am so excited to work alongside such passionate educators and continue to grow into the best teacher I can be!”

Welcome, Erin!

Here’s to a new teacher Anna Groven who is our next Staff Spotlight!

Prior to her time at River Valley, Anna taught at a charter school for six years. She loves her days with her second grade students, where each day looks anything but the same.

Mornings start out with high fives, then the students gather in a circle to talk about what they did over the weekend and their plan for the day. The day is broken up by brain breaks for movement and time for conversation with classmates about what they are working on.

“Our conversations focus on courage and acting it out,” Anna said. “We work together as a team to learn how to be a good friend – we are modeling, talking, discussing, and showing courage by example.”

Anna is very intentional about her teaching while incorporating her students into her lessons. She finds ways to make the subject matter relatable to their interests. For example, students will find their names in math problems or see some of their favorite items like Squishmallows show up in their work.

“They really enjoy projects that they get to do on their own,” Anna said. “Recently, the students learned about bugs and insects and they enjoyed learning and categorizing the information. One student created an entire diorama about ladybugs to share with the class.”

Anna is appreciative of her Professional Learning Community (PLC) and their regular meetings. The team of 12 teachers ensure they are on the same page with lessons, share resources, and learn from each other each day.

“The team and the support that we have every day is just so wonderful,” Anna said. “My mentor teacher has been amazing - they are my go-to person for when I need to problem solve or need a fresh perspective.”

We appreciate your positive energy that you bring to your students and to our staff members!

We’re proud to feature first grade teacher Megan Wilson at Oakwood as the next Staff Spotlight!

Odds are if you’re in the Lemont community, you know of Megan Wilson. Not only is she a first grade teacher at Oakwood, she is also a parent of children in the district, and is always out and about in the community.

This is Megan’s sixth year in the district and she has found her rhythm in the first grade classroom. After a few years teaching in another state and in other grades, she loves being a part of a first grader’s learning alongside their parents.

“It’s so fun and it’s wonderful to see the growth that a first grader makes in a year,” Megan said. “It is absolutely amazing as they come in barely being able to read and they read and write confidently by the end of the school year.”

While teaching such foundational skills, Megan creates a supportive learning environment for her students by encouraging them to be brave learners. Her hope is that by allowing questions, conversations and mistakes to happen naturally, they will all continue this practice moving forward in the educational journey.

“Being brave learners means having a classroom community where everybody supports each other through the mistakes,” Megan said. “The students guide each other through conversations and no one gets embarrassed or frustrated. It is truly a safe space.”

Megan keeps up with how this practice plays out in her students’ work. She’s always checking student data, checking their work, and receiving positive emails from parents about what students are learning. Partnering closely with parents in their student’s learning is an essential part of their success.

“As a class, we like to try things together and if it doesn’t work well we try something new the next day,” Megan said. “The students are so resilient and their parents are so trusting, as I ensure they are staying connected and know exactly what their student is learning and how they can help at home.”

Thank you for your commitment to student learning and reinforcing support at home!
