I will share more on the details of the state budget soon. I'm disappointed to say that many important topics such as property taxes, affordability, and relief for working families were left on the table by the majority party. We, as House Republicans brought many solutions forward, but they weren't prioritized by Illinois Democrats. That should be a concern to all of us.

Even so, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the constituent-led legislation that I passed unanimously in both the House and Senate this spring and is now on its way to the Governor’s desk.

A lot of work remains to be done in this state, but we will celebrate the wins that we did have. I remain focused on advancing practical, bipartisan solutions that improve the lives of the people I represent. It has been an honor to help create and carry these measures through the legislative process, and I look forward to continuing that work for the residents of the 82nd District.

✅ HB 5580 improves communication between law enforcement agencies and prosecutors when DNA evidence generates a match, helping ensure critical investigative information reaches the people who need it.

✅ HB 4654 requires human trafficking resource information to be posted in public restrooms at Illinois roadside rest areas, giving victims another opportunity to find help and support.

✅ HB 4659 provides important protections for survivors of domestic abuse, human trafficking, and exploitation who were forced into debt through coercion.

✅ SB 3016 encourages greater accessibility in parks, playgrounds, trails, and recreational spaces by prioritizing universal and accessible park design through the OSLAD grant program.

While we're recovering from a long and busy month in Springfield, I’m excited to share that our summer interns started today!

Over the next few months, they’ll be helping our office serve residents throughout the district, assist with community outreach, and learn more about the legislative process.

You may see them out and about at local events and in the community this summer, so be sure to say hello!

I’m looking forward to working with them in the months ahead. Welcome to the team! ☀️👏

Today, I voted NO on the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget at 4:15 am.

Illinois families are being asked to do more with less every day. They are paying more for groceries, utilities, housing, and property taxes. They expect their government to show the same discipline in budgeting that they are forced to practice at home.

Instead, Illinois Democrats passed the largest budget in Illinois history.

Here are the facts:

• $55.9 billion total spending, the largest budget Illinois has ever passed.

• Nearly $800 million in new taxes and fees.

• At least $220 million in pork projects and political earmarks.

• Approximately $410 million in General Revenue Fund spending on immigrant programs and services.

• No increase in the Local Government Distributive Fund, which remains frozen at 6.47%.

What’s NOT in there??
Meaningful taxpayer relief.

The decision to keep the Local Government Distributive Fund frozen is extremely disappointing. When Springfield keeps more revenue in the state budget, local governments are left with fewer resources and more difficult choices. That pressure often ends up falling on taxpayers through increased property taxes.

MILLIONS of Illinois residents were left without a voice or important representation in a process that directly affects their communities and their wallets.

Illinois has already seen 57 tax and fee increases under Governor Pritzker, costing taxpayers more than $77 billion. Families cannot afford more of the same. Illinois residents need lower taxes, lower costs, and responsible spending. This budget moves our state in the opposite direction.

Have you had enough yet? I know I have.

Well… it’s June. Still A LOT more to vote on.

It's the final scheduled day of session.

After months of committee hearings, floor debates, and countless conversations with constituents, everything comes down to today. We begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be voting on the remaining legislation of the spring before turning our attention to the state budget.

The budget has now been posted, but the process remains far too closed off. Every representative deserves the opportunity to offer input on a budget that directly impacts the people they were elected to represent. The best solutions come from open discussion and collaboration instead of decisions made behind closed doors.

Illinois families deserve transparency. They deserve a government that respects their tax dollars and focuses on the challenges they're facing every day, from rising property taxes to the increasing cost of living.

I'll be on the House Floor all day fighting for those priorities and keeping you updated along the way.

The House has recessed for the night, but we have heard the budget has dropped. Over 3,500 pages to review and we’re back in at 9 am tomorrow.

Before we got started on voting today, I was able to take a quick moment to wish the Homer Heat 11U baseball team good luck as they head into a big weekend of tournament games.

I always enjoy meeting with young athletes from our communities and seeing the hard work, dedication, and teamwork they bring to the field. Wishing the entire team (including my son, of course!), their coaches, and families the best of luck this weekend. Go Heat! ⚾🔥

Tomorrow is the final scheduled day of the Spring Legislative Session, and we still haven't seen the state budget.

The truth here is simple: Illinois families deserve better.

Since Governor Pritzker took office, state spending has grown by nearly 40%. His proposed budget is nearly $56 billion, the largest in state history, and includes roughly $700 million in new taxes. While the final numbers may differ, the trend is clear: spending is out of control, and Illinois' citizens are paying the price for it.

Meanwhile, Republicans have been largely shut out of the budget process. It's the day before the final scheduled day of session, and we still haven't seen the budget. How can we properly review it and represent our districts when decisions are being made behind closed doors?

Illinois families are already dealing with rising costs, the highest property tax rates in the nation, and economic uncertainty. State government should be focused on living within its means, restoring more revenue to local communities through the LGDF, and rejecting ANY unnecessary tax hikes.

I'll continue showing up, standing by my principles, and fighting for transparency, accountability, and the taxpayers of District 82 and the state of Illinois.

Follow session live today at 5pm at ILGA.gov
