Communities become stronger when preparedness is discussed in schools, businesses understand continuity planning, neighborhoods support vulnerable residents, and organizations work together before emergencies occur.

Emergency managers help foster these connections, but lasting resilience is built by the entire community.

The Emergency Vehicle and Expo Night in downtown Lemont, Illinois, took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM as part of the Lemont Downtown Cruise Nights & Block Party. Over 78 police and fire agencies from the surrounding counties participated in the event. LEMA successfully secured the downtown area, allowing more than 1,000 + community members, friends, and families to enjoy the festivities.

Law enforcement officers from participating agencies engaged with many of the children who attended, handing out candy and souvenirs.

Highlights of the event included displays of modern and historic police cars, motorcycles, fire trucks, and safety service vehicles. There were also grand parades at the beginning and end of the event, showcasing emergency vehicles with their lights flashing and sirens blaring as they traveled from the Lemont Police Department to downtown.

At approximately 10:10 AM, a routine call was made for team members to begin assembling. The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Cook, Will, and DuPage counties as radar detected intense, rain-wrapped rotation moving east at 55 mph. Trees began to fall, causing severe damage in neighborhoods. LEMA responded. Responds.

The Gathering Shelf Cloud: On Tuesday morning, August 11, 2026, the Village of Lemont Emergency Management Agency [LEMA] is buzzing with energy in response to the upcoming severe weather alert. The dedicated LEMA Team begins tracking a persistent weather system that is about to pummel the area.
