Yesterday, we celebrated a decade of the PA Agricultural System (PASS), a crucial program that supports PA farmers, provides nutritious food to our neighbors, and helps reduce food waste 🚜
PASS connects PA’s farmers with regional food banks by covering harvest and transport costs for surplus food. In the past 10 years, PASS has rescued 38.3 million pounds of fresh surplus food, reinvested $31.9 million into PA's agricultural economy, and provided more than 31.7 million meals to over 7.9 million households.
We had the honor of joining farmer Ed Weaver, a PASS farmer for 10 years, and his family at Weaver's Orchard in Morgantown for the event where chefs from Helping Harvest served a meal crafted from ingredients produced by PASS farms and Weaver's Orchard themselves. Secretary Russell Redding and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Senator Judy Schwank, and other advocates of the program came together to emphasize how vital continued state backing is to our farmers, agricultural economy, and charitable food system.
Thank you to our incredible network of farmers, food banks, and supportive partners who make this possible. Let’s keep growing a well-nourished Pennsylvania!
