On Thursday, Visit Lenexa, the Lenexa Convention and Visitors Bureau, co-hosted the State of Johnson County Tourism event along with our tourism partners Explore Merriam, Visit Olathe, Visit Overland Park, and Visit Shawnee Kansas.

Nationally recognized industry experts from Destinations International, Tourism Economics, and the Sports Events and Tourism Association shared insights on the latest Johnson County, KS visitor spending data and tourism trends to better understand the visitor economy and where it’s headed next.

Our very own Julie Sayers - Lenexa Mayor participated in a panel with the industry experts, as well as Johnson County, KS Government's Chairman Mike Kelly, and Johnson County Park and Recreation District - JCPRD's Executive Director Jeff Stewart, to share ideas on what role local leaders play in positioning their communities as destinations for visitors, meetings, sports events, and new investment, and what successful collaboration looks like between municipalities.

According to a Tourism Economics report, in 2025, Lenexa generated:
➡️ $241 million in visitor spending
➡️ $347 million in total economic impact
➡️ Nearly 3,000 total jobs supported

Did you know: Each household in City of Lenexa, Kansas would need to be taxed an additional $760 to replace the visitor-generated taxes received by state and local governments in 2025!

What a great way to start yesterday morning! We had a wonderful time at our AM Live hosted by Security Bank of Kansas City in partnership with Care Package Inbound.

A big thank you to Security Bank of Kansas City for opening their doors and sharing more about their long-standing commitment to the Kansas City community, serving the region since 1933.

We were also inspired to learn more about the incredible work of Care Package Inbound. In just five years, they have created 2,220+ backpacks filled with essential clothing, hygiene items, and comfort items for children in foster care. Their next goal? 500 backpacks by October 31!
