As most of Holt Public Schools students and staff are on summer break, Lt. Eric Jungel of the Delhi Charter Township/Holt Division wanted to reflect on some of ICSO’s accomplishments in the district this past school year.
Deputy Bill Belanger did an extraordinary job as the Delhi School Resource Officer. He worked unbelievably hard to keep the kids safe, stay on top of the wide variety of problems, and keep our school partners involved.
He is truly an outstanding member of the ICSO family and showed a tremendous amount of dedication, professionalism, and leadership working in Holt Schools this year.
We thought he would have been looking forward to the last day of school however, but as you can see, he will miss all of the kids this summer more than he knew. He could barely be consoled!
Honorable mention in support of the Safer Schools initiative goes to Deputy Patrick Hollern, who did an outstanding job and dedicated countless hours to caring for the Holt Junior High School this year!

Filled with mixed emotions as we learn that one of our dear and favorite furry friends will no longer be joining us for lineup - K9 Boris enters retirement....
The City of Grand Rapids purchased one-year-old K9 Boris on April 12, 2012, from Mid-Michigan Kennels in Eaton Rapids, earning him the distinction of being the youngest dog ever acquired by the GRPD. K9 Boris is from Krzucz, Poland and was a GREEN dog when we received him. After completing his 9-week training with his new partner, Officer Todd Wuis, K9 Boris was ready to hit the streets in July 2012. He has been a nationally certified patrol dog through IPWDA (International Police Working Dog Association), and in 2014, was given an additional duty of working with the SRT, assisting them on their callouts and high risk operations.
K9 Boris has been involved in numerous tracks and vehicle, house, and area searches. A few of the memorable ones have included finding Victor Gonzales hiding in the basement of a building under construction at Bridge/Seward and being on bite while the suspect was shot. Another was when he was sent into a house on More St, to find a suspect that we believed to be dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. While K9 Boris was inside, the suspect came back to life and fired four shots at point blank range, missing K9 Boris with all of them. K9 Boris was then called back out and the suspect came out later. K9 Boris earned a national award from the National Tactical Officers Association for this incident.
K9 Boris is not only a police dog, but he is able to switch to a house dog when he gets home. He usually follows Todd around the house a good portion of the time, but does spend time with the rest of the family. K9 Boris enjoys playing with his chew toys and putting them in people’s laps, hoping that they will throw it for him. He will be purchased by the Wuis family and will live out his much deserved retirement with them.
K9 Boris would like to thank all of the Officers who have thrown a ball for him or helped in his training, and we certainly thank and commend K9 Boris for his service to the GPRD and to our community. 🐶👮🍖
If this fails to move you, then you may want to check your pulse. 💓 Since the very first time Peyton Porter was ever asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” he has always answered, “A policeman.” 👮 For every single Halloween, Peyton has dressed up as a policeman. 👮 Peyton Porter is an energetic, positive, spirited, seven-year-old kid. 🙌 Yes, there are oodles of little kids out there who dream of being police officers, and we love it! 💯 But what’s exceptionally inspiring about Peyton is that his enthusiasm is steadfast despite being born with an aggressive form of a rare genetic disease, Rhitintis Pigmentosa, which steals more of his sight each day until eventually, he will be completely blind. Moved by his story, today we were honored to make Peyton’s dream come true and welcome Peyton Porter to the Ottawa County force. 🌟 Peyton Porter was sworn in and deputized for the day by Sheriff Kempker. 🚔 Earlier in the day, Peyton was surprised by Deputy AJ Rietberg and told that his service was needed. He was whisked away in a squad car for pizza at the Jamestown Township Fire Department. Then a (pretend) purse snatching at the Sheriff’s Headquarters parking lot required his expertise alongside the SWAT team. 💪 Deputy Peyton saved the day by apprehending and handcuffing the suspect. Following this, he toured the range and joined the K9 Unit for an exercise in locating banned substances and tracking a suspect. 💗 Deputy Peyton Porter, YOU are an inspiration. Thank you for teaching us through your courage, zest for life and resiliency. ☺️ A special thanks to Deputy Rietberg of Ottawa County's Jamestown Community Policing division for orchestrating the special day for Peyton. #OCSheriff #WhereYouBelong #OttawaCountyMI
