September 25 will be Dolly Parton Day in Caldwell County Schools — a day to honor a woman whose impact on children and education runs far deeper than her music.

In 1995, Dolly launched the Imagination Library, mailing a free book every month to children from birth to age five. The program has gifted over 300 million books to kids around the world. Research shows the Imagination Library works: children in the program are far more likely to engage with books and develop the early literacy skills that lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

Dolly's commitment to kids didn't stop at books. She has championed innovations that drastically lowered dropout rates, backed arts education opportunities, funded scholarships, and stepped up for families in crisis.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. On September 18, Caldwell County Schools will go gold district-wide to stand with students fighting childhood cancer. It's a small gesture. But gold on that day says something big: every student, in every battle, has this whole district behind them. 🎗️

A note on communication:

This school year has already brought a few unique situations at our schools or involving our students, and we know families have felt unsettled at times. We also understand that in the moment, families want as much information as possible, as fast as possible. So we want to clarify how we communicate so families know what to expect.

Please keep in mind: When an incident involves students, privacy law limits what we can legally share. We can't release names, disciplinary details, or specifics tied to individual students, even when we understand why people want to know.

Here's what we can always commit to:
ᐧ Acting swiftly using specialized protocols
ᐧ Sharing the information we're able to, as soon as we're able to
ᐧ Reassuring families when a school is safe and a situation is resolved
ᐧ Making families aware if an instance may be part of an ongoing concern
ᐧ Being as transparent as the law will allow
ᐧ Limiting confusion by only sharing confirmed information

These same privacy protections apply to every student in our district.

We focus our decisions on keeping your student safe. That's not just a policy; it's a personal mission for every principal, teacher, and staff member in this district. Many of us are raising our own kids here too.

UPDATE: Water lines repaired. Regular school schedule on Friday, September 4!

Baton Elementary is closed today because a water main break has left the building without running water. Students will be dismissed at 8:30 AM.

• Students En Route: Children arriving or on buses are safe, warm, and supervised by staff inside.
• 8:30 AM Dismissal: Morning buses will run return routes, or you may pick your child up directly from campus. Staff will remain on site until every single student is safely collected.
• Cancellations: All morning and after-school programs are canceled today.
• Next Update: We will send an update regarding tomorrow’s status later today.

West Caldwell High School's NJROTC program brought home their 4th CONSECUTIVE JROTC American Legion Color Guard National title! Way to go, Warriors! 🏆

🎖West Caldwell High School Warrior Navy NJROTC brought home their 4th consecutive JROTC American Legion Color Guard National Championship!

Cadets Aiden Kirby, Ethan Cook, Avarie Pena, and Jayden Munday practiced daily for three months leading up to this year's competition in Louisville, KY. Retired Command Master Chief Wayne Mihelich of American Legion Post 29 in Lenoir, NC coached the team for the fourth straight competition.

Three Warrior cadets similarly competed in the Legion's Open bracket against all ages. The three current Warrior cadets on the Open team won their third straight American Legion national championship with Elizabeth Phasoulas, a former Warrior, acting as the fourth member.

Cadet Aiden Kirby won his overall sixth national championship (a school record). Cadet Ethan Cook won his fourth overall title. Kirby said of the experience "To win these titles with so many different members each year was difficult, but we were able to work together all summer preparing and executing."

Kirby is the only Senior on the team - the group's future remains bright with so many cadets ready to step in and compete.

⭐The dedication, discipline, teamwork, and commitment displayed by these cadets are truly something to celebrate!

Caldwell County Schools is aware of a social media post circulating locally that references a local hotel, includes a list of first names, and makes suggestion of violent activity. At this time, there is no indication of a credible threat to any Caldwell County Schools student, staff member, or campus. This post appears to be consistent with a broader pattern of alarming content spreading online in communities across the country, designed to provoke fear rather than reflect danger.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies are aware of this post and are working alongside CCS to remain proactive about campus safety.

We understand posts like this can be unsettling, especially for families. Please avoid sharing or resharing the content, as doing so only helps it spread further. If you or your student come across a concerning social media post, we encourage you to report it directly to CCS leadership or your school’s administration.

We take the safety of our schools seriously, and we will continue to communicate if any concerns develop. Thank you for helping us keep our schools safe.
