Nineteen years. Thatโs how long itโs been since Valmead Fire placed a brand-new fire protection apparatus in frontline service.
Today, that changed.
After three years of planning, design meetings, funding coordination, and build time, our newest apparatus passed final inspection at Alexis Fire Equipment and is officially ready to serve the Valmead community.
Built on a Freightliner FL114 SD chassis, this truck was designed with rural fire protection in mind. It carries 2,000 gallons of water, is equipped with a 1,500 GPM pump, and features electric water dumps on the rear, driver, and officer sides. It can deliver 2,000 gallons of water in just 61 seconds. When water supply is critical, that speed matters.
Until now, our newest frontline truck was a 2007 model. This apparatus represents more than new equipment. It is a major investment in firefighter safety, operational capability, and the protection of the citizens we serve.
This project was made possible in partnership with Blue Ridge Energy through the REDLG grant program. We are grateful for their support and shared commitment to strengthening rural emergency services.
Thank you to Chief Potter, Deputy Chief Foust, Asst. Chief McElyea, and Captain Tester for traveling to complete the final inspection and helping bring this project across the finish line.
We are proud to bring this truck home. Stay tuned for arrival details. ๐
